Obituary

Rev. Roy Lee Coon, 88, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Wesley Long Hospital. He was born on January 28, 1926, the son of Cletus C. and Leatha M. Coon in Surry County, NC. He served his country in the US Army during World War II. He then worked with Burlington Industries and retired after 37 years of service. In 1957, he became an ordained Pastor and did Evangelical Ministry. After retirement, he loved spending time with his family and working on small engine repair. Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl M. Coon; son, Kenneth Atkinson; granddaughter, Michelle Norman; brother, Dolphus Coon and sisters, Thelma Manuel and Treva McCanless. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving daughters; Rona Apple and husband Robert of Gibsonville, Dona Norman and husband Fred of Julian; brother, Rev. Harding Coon of Greensboro; grandchildren, Cara Soares and husband Tim, Brian Apple,Emily Ryan Norman, Tammy Phillips and husband James; great grandchildren, Luke Soares, Sydney Soares and Brandy Reed and husband Casey; one great great grandchild, Kinley Reed. Also, surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, 11:00 a.m. at Guilford Memorial Park with full Military Honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 High Point Road, Greensboro, NC 27407.
