ROY O. GROSS, 87, passed away on March 5, 2014 in his Pinecrest home.
A resident of Miami since the late 1970s, he lived much of his prior life in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Roy was born on August 15, 1926 in West Palm Beach. He was the son of John ?Jack? Gross and Helen Gates Gross. After his early childhood in Florida, Roy moved to Michigan to stay with his mother and grandmother. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Zoology, and Doctor of Dental Surgery at the University of Michigan. Following graduation from dental school, Roy served as an officer in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps at Naval Station Great Lakes. Dr. Gross practiced dentistry for many years in Ann Arbor, Michigan and served as the President of the Washtenaw District Dental Society of the Michigan Dental Association.
He also donated numerous hours of service to a dental clinic for indigent children.

Dr. Gross moved to Florida in the late 1970s to take over a crown and bridge practice, which he continued for many years. After retirement, he undertook part-time dentistry as a traveling substitute, and in Florida prisons. Roy was active in the Kiwanis Club, where he was a
30 year member. He also helped to revitalize the University of Michigan Alumni Club of Miami-Fort Lauderdale.

Roy's pride and joy, however, was his family. He married Edna Schwartz on April 7, 1951, and treasured their 63 year marriage. Their only child is Steven Gross, 59, of Oxnard, California. Steven Gross is married to the former Julie Callahan of Ventura, California. He has two children, Mike and Katie. Mike is married to the former Lily Staight of Oceanside, California. Dr. Steven Gross is Professor of French Horn at the University of California - Santa Barbara, and a former member of the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony, and the National Symphony of Washington, DC. Roy Gross was tireless in helping his wife and child pursue their dreams, and left no stone unturned in helping them.

Dr. Roy Gross is survived by his wife, son, and sister Jackie Parish, of Checotah, Oklahoma. His parents and sister Doris preceded him in death, as well as his beloved dog Inkie.

A Memorial and Celebration was held at 2:00 pm Saturday March 15, at the Van Orsdel Kendall Chapel, 11220 North Kendall Drive, Miami FL 33176.
