Obituary

Roy William Oliver Jr., 78, of Concord, NC, passed away peacefully at home on Friday April 13, 2012 after a long battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 pm Monday April 16, 2012 at Hanes- Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel, with Pastor Bruce Updyke, nephew of Mr. Oliver, officiating. Interment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Oliver was born Christmas Eve 1933 in Guilford County to the late Roy William Oliver Sr. and Bessie Harvell Oliver. Roy William Oliver Jr., 78, of Concord, NC, passed away peacefully at home on Friday April 13, 2012 after a long battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 pm Monday April 16, 2012 at Hanes- Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel, with Pastor Bruce Updyke, nephew of Mr. Oliver, officiating. Interment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Oliver was born Christmas Eve 1933 in Guilford County to the late Roy William Oliver Sr. and Bessie Harvell Oliver. He loved spending time with his family, deep-sea fishing, and watching the Yankees play baseball. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Oliver spent nearly 40 years employed in the fixed operations portion of the automotive industry until his retirement in 1999. Over the years, he has lived in Greensboro, Camp LeJeune, Virginia Beach, Reidsville, Burlington, Beaufort, Graham, and Eden before moving to Concord in 2010 to be nearer to his daughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Irene Matthews Oliver in 2007.
Surviving are his daughter, Terrie Killian and husband, Jack of Concord; his three sons: Ricky Oliver and girlfriend, Tonja of Kernersville; Tommy Oliver and girlfriend, Nancy of Oak Ridge; Marvin Oliver and wife, Sandra of Oak Ridge; brother Harold Oliver and wife, Brenda of Greensboro; sister-in-law, Elsie Futrell of Chesapeake, VA; brothers-in-law Walter Matthews and wife, Fay of Greensboro and Howard Matthews and wife, Nan of Kernersville; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 2:00 pm-3:00 pm prior to the funeral at Hanes-Lineberry, Sedgefield Chapel.
