Five years have passed since Ruben left us. He will never, ever be forgotten. His caring for others has meant so much because he truly cared about us. I feel privileged to have been his friend. God bless dear Ruben and Hilda.

Ruben conducted many valuable special projects for Gulf Coast Writers members. He produced and edited anthologies of member's works, conducted workshops, organized author readings, had seminars in book stores. These provided opportunities for us to learn and grow and get our work in print. He left a wonderful legacy for GCWA. He will be greatly missed. Mary Lou Williams

I had the pleasure of meeting Ruben when I joined the Gulf Coast Writers Association. He was such a sweet soul with a gentle spirit and had a warm smile that greeted you at every encounter! We'd rib each other about the publisher we both shared and the royalties we received (or lack thereof).
I will certainly miss his presence here but know that we'll greet each other again with smiles in the next realm over there.
Praying for God's comfort and strength for the family during this difficult time...

We're so sorry for your loss. I, too, met Ruben through Gulf Coast Writers when I first moved to SW Florida. He was a smart man and gentle soul, always glad to help others. As leader of the book discussion group, he expressed his opinions firmly and I'll never forget his many announcements of "author intrusion" and other examples of poor writing even among the famous--which irritated him immensely.

My friendship with Ruben was a life changer for me. Though no one is perfect, he generated as near a Christ-like spirit as I can imagine. Always gentle and caring, his thoughts and actions were towards others rather than self. His strong faith in God leaves us with a legacy that is incomparable: the certainty that we will see him again in paradise.

I am so sorry for your loss. I met Ruben at a weekend writers workshop and through the GCWA. He was such a nice guy and always willing to share helpful information with other authors. He will surely be missed by our group.
