I'm so sad to hear about Ruben's death. He was such a great, nice, funny, smart and helpful man. While Ruben worked for the USEPA he was so helpful to me and the company I work for. Ruben was such a please to work with. He expected a lot from us but he was always so willing to help teach us what we needed to do.

I just learned from a colleague of Ruben's passing. I had the pleasure of working with him a few years back on a major project at our agency, to which he lent his considerable subject matter expertise. Ruben was a GEM of a fellow and I am saddened by his passing. I will keep Ruben in my thoughts and extend my heartfelt condolences to his family.

Ruben's heart was bigger than his body. I can't recall a single time I saw him when he wasn't smiling. His knowledge, his concern for other people, his dedication to his work, his sense of humor, his laughter, his stories, and most of all his genuine goodness are already sorely missed. Thank you for being my friend, Ruben. You made this world a better place on your way through.

I was really saddened to here about Rubens passing. To this day I still talk about when Ruben and I would go fishing together and I would spend most of the day dodging his lures and giving him a hard time to how close he was to hitting me in the head. He would just laugh at me and continue doing what he was doing. The story will go on Ruben.

I am so sorry for your loss. I so enjoyed working with Ruben when I worked at EPA. He always had a smile, made me laugh and would do anything for anyone. Just doesn't seem fair he didn't get to enjoy his retirement. I guess the good Lord wanted him sooner than anyone thought. One thing for sure, I have no doubt that Ruben is keeping the Angels on their toes and giggling in Heaven. Just know you are in the thoughts and prayers of many that knew Ruben, admired him and enjoyed him.

Ruben was a mentor and a friend. What a loss to the planet. We spent countless hours driving to the far reaches of Region VII to visit large animal processing facilities. He had a joke or a pun to go with all 17 of the elements of the ISO 14001 standards for Environmental Management Systems. During the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina we had to provide audit results to leadership at a military base. Ruben encouraged me to present the results. I was terrified, but I did fine as he knew I would. He always believed in me more than I believed in myself. Every time I have a challenging presentation I remember that moment and I try to remember to use humor as Ruben would. I will never have that wonderful Alabama accent, but feel I learned from the best.
