Obituary

Rubin Steele Frels, 85, of Victoria, passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2014. He was born on November 17, 1928 in Victoria, Texas to the late Rubin Frels and Marjorie Steele Frels. Rubin graduated from Patti Welder High School and received his B.A. from Principia University, Elsah, Illinois. He returned to Victoria and was drafted into the Army where he served as a Chaplain's Asst. and organist; music simply filled Rubin's life. Rubin was the organist at his church from early childhood until 2011. He was also a pipe organ builder and founder of Frels Pipe Organs. Rubin Steele Frels, 85, of Victoria, passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2014. He was born on November 17, 1928 in Victoria, Texas to the late Rubin Frels and Marjorie Steele Frels. Rubin graduated from Patti Welder High School and received his B.A. from Principia University, Elsah, Illinois. He returned to Victoria and was drafted into the Army where he served as a Chaplain's Asst. and organist; music simply filled Rubin's life. Rubin was the organist at his church from early childhood until 2011. He was also a pipe organ builder and founder of Frels Pipe Organs. His father started Frels Theaters,
upon his father's death, Rubin alongside his mother took over the family business. He served as President of both Frels Theaters and Frels Real Estate. Rubin enjoyed being involved with music programs in Victoria; the Victoria Music Club, the Victoria Symphony and the Victoria Bach Festival. He was a charter member of the American Institute of Organ Builders (AIOB), a member of the Organ Historical Society (OHS), American
Theater Organ Society (ATOS) and the Theater Historical Society. He was active in both the Lions and Rotary Clubs and a member of the Airedale Rescue Terriers.

Survivors are his Partner, Brad Richards and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy W. Frels; sisters, Jo Anne Suppes and
Marjorie Lynn (Buntyn) Adkins.

A Graveside Service will be held on 2:00 pm, Saturday, June 21, 2014, Evergreen Cemetery in Victoria.

On Saturday, July 12, 2014, the family will hold A Celebration of Life at 12:00 pm at the First Church of Christ Scientist, 302 W. Stayton in Victoria followed by a reception at the Frels residence.

The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff at DeTar, Memorial Hermann of Houston, Warm Springs and Citizens Medical Center for their kind attention. Also a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Rakesh Kathpalia and the staff at DeTar Senior Care, nurse Lorraine Randle at Caring Senior Services, and
physical therapist, Michelle Dworoaczyk at Healthforce. To Tom Sanchez and Steve Adams, thank you very much for improving Rubin's quality of life and for all that you did for him during the final years.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Victoria Symphony or the Victoria Bach Festival.
