Just think, Ruby's up there with most all of our family now and they are having a great time together. We are left here with our memories. One of my favorites, Mom was in Corpus with Daddy Dave. Somehow, Ruby and I wound up in Siloam - what a sight we were painting the kitchen - walls, cabinets, each other. And the times she spent here on the way to Kentucky, and when we were all together for the reunion, and at Aunt Elva's big bash. Lots to think about, and not be too sad. She is not hurting, and that's the main thing. Love to you kids. Your cousin, Sue Smith (the Arkansas one)

Mother is gone but her memories are alive.Life is so precious, yet we take it for granted. Life is so short, yet we let it slip by.You never know how much you will miss someone until they are gone.Mother is greatly missed by so many, and she is dearest to my heart. A wonderful mother, mentor, and ever so perfect, she will be missed so much. Thank each and everyone of you who have had part in helping and caring for mother. Words cannot express the greatness of all the doctors nurses and hospitals that made everything go so gentle. The number 1 person I could not have lived without through all of this is my darling daughter Shara,RN,BSN nurse who from day one has helped guide us through each and every step we needed to make through this process. She knew when and what needed to be done each day and led us all the way. She was moms Guardian Angel and cared for her 100%.Thank you Shara. There are not enough words as well to Thank Dr David Le for all the time, cares and concerns, and all the treatments he did to keep mother comfortable. He is the most caring Doctor I have ever known.Especially taking on a complete stranger as he did for mom.Warm Springs was the most awesome hospital. Mother says it was her favorite and never wanted to leave. The nurses there made it so special as well. It is nice to know there are special caring people in this world and we found them all......Thank you so very much for making this sad time where we will have great memories.....

She was my Big Sister, my best friend and all of my life she was there. There are disadvantages to being the "Baby" of the family. My parents were older and didn't participate in my growing-up activites, but Ruby was always there for me. She was the only family member attending my high school graduation and had a box full of little gifts for me. Money was scarce in our family in 1957 but Ruby somehow managed to give me a bridal shower. A floral arrangement for the table was out of the question, so Ruby went to a vacant field near her house to pick wild sun flowers for me and made a beautiful arrangement. To this day when I see sunflowers, I always think of her. Ruby was at my wedding, along with my parents (The only wedding they attended of all their children). She was at the hospital when my only child, Mike, was born. She waited with her two little ones there until she knew all was ok. She walked the halls and wrung her hands saying "God love his little heart", God love his little heart." Mike has always called her "My Sweet Aunt Ruby". Ruby was the pretty one growing up. She had long, beautiful hair and a near perfect figure. She won a "may Queen Beauty Contest" when she was a teenager. I was never jealous of her, only admired her. She had many artistic talents that included beautiful ceramics, crocheting, embroidering and sewing. Ruby, Bob, Bobby (my husband)and I bowled for many years on a mixed league. They were good bowlers and we won first place many times. The trophies were numerous and we had a difficult time finding a place to display them. She never lost her love for bowling. We traveled many vacations together, just she and I mostly. We always had fun and made each other laugh uncontrollably. We shopped, cooked, shared clothes, furniture and stories as most sisters do. She told a story as a joke about how she got her name. She said her mother and daddy looked at their newborn and said "She is so beautiful we must name her after a gem". Thus, came Ruby. How could she know this would become a true story to us. She made many trips to Corpus to visit us, where I tried to make it fun and cook all her favorite things. I was so proud of her accomplishments as Mayor of Wixon Valley and told her so. Our conversations always included her friends from there and many I remember, Big Jim, George, Helen, Teressa, Jimmy-too many to mention, but how she appreciated everything you did for her. So do I. Her children and Grandchildren loved and cared for her in a way I can't describe.l How wonderful they are-she raised them right. The service for her was beautiful, the message , the tributes, the flowers all touched our hearts. Thank you is not enough to say for all the time and work it took for this honor but I know no other words except may God Bless each and every one of you. I know when my salty tears dry and I can just remember and smile at the funny, strong and wonderful sister I loved, all will be well again. It is true and those of you that have lost loved ones know that love never dies. Ella

The news of Ruby's death has truly saddened me. She was a wonderful lady and an excellent elected official. We served together on the Texas Municipal League Region X Board. She was always at our regional meetings representing Wixon Valley. Over the years I got to know her as a truly remarkable, friendly, efficient and dedicated woman who believed in serving the citizens of her community. Her brand of service will be sorely missed not only by the citizens in Wixon Valley that she represented, but by all of us who knew her across the region and state. Cherish the precious memories that you have of your mom and grandmother and know that she was loved by many. God Bless You all in this time of sorrow. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
