Rubye Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 6, 2018.

Rubye Irene Smith passed away at the glorious age of 86 years, on Saturday, January 6, 2018 in Xenia, OH. Rubye was born in South Charleston, OH on December 19, 1931, the second eldest daughter of John Sherman Jones and Mary Louise (Roberts) Jones.

Rubye graduated from South Charleston High School and retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base after 31 years of service. Rubye was a devoted child and follower of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She loved attending her home church, Xenia Church of Christ, singing hymns, and listening to gospel music. Her favorite gospel group was the Gaithers.

She is survived by her four loving children Warren Golden Smith Jr. (Rose), Dwight Eric Smith (Renee), Robin Denise Steward, and Jendayi Dalili Saada (Darryl); grandchildren Nikita Michelle Cousino, Catherine Marie Reed, Phillip Michael Smith, Christopher Ryan Boney, and Kelley Monique-Denise Steward; loving siblings Lois Jean Kelley Gentry, Alice Ann Brown, Mary Marlene Tyree (William), and Paul Emerson Jones and many beloved nieces and nephews. Rubye was predeceased by her parents and her siblings Warner Lamar Jones, Francis Kathleen Hall; and grandchild Carmella Jeanette Smith.

Last, but never least, Rubye leaves behind her dearest friend and Sister in Christ, Joyce Cyrus and Brother in Christ, James Cyrus.

The family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks and deepest gratitude to the staff and care givers at Harmony Center for Rehabilitation and Healing who lovingly tended to Rubye over the years, her friends and brothers and sisters in Christ.

The celebration of Rubye's life will be held at the Xenia Church of Christ 444 Country Club Drive, Xenia Ohio on January 15th at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Vitas Hospice Care or to Xenia Church of Christ.

Warren, Dwight, Robin, and Ginnie: So sad to read of the passing of your mother. She was such a sweet lady and wonderful neighbor to us on Rose Street. I have many fond memories of not only her, but all of you. Prayers for healing and comfort.

Rubye was our next door neighbor for many years. She was a dear friend and sister, who we loved so much. She was the best neighbor we had ever had. She would call us on the phone and tell us to meet her out at the back fence. We would meet her there and she would always have a yummy desert, or some other tasty food that she had prepared and wanted to share. She will truly be missed. Our heart felt sympathy goes out to the entire family.
