Russell Stobaugh Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 9, 2018.

Russell Brien Stobaugh, age 58, of Plano, Texas passed away on Monday January 8, 2018. He was in the company of family and friends until his last breath. Russell was born June 12, 1959 in Newport, Arkansas to the late Jean Stobaugh and Joe Russell Stobaugh. He was raised in Campbell Station, Arkansas, with his older sister, Joy Lynn McNeil.

Russ graduated from Newport High School in 1977 and Arkansas State University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Business. Russ was a proud member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity.

He moved to the DFW metroplex in 1985 to pursue career opportunities. He worked in Banking Software sales for EDS and Sterling Commerce following the completion of his education.

He married Janell Stobaugh in 1988 in her hometown of Kearney, Nebraska. They raised three amazing sons, Russell Taylor Stobaugh; Michael Tanner Stobaugh; and Trenton Clifford Stobaugh.

Russ enjoyed golfing, riding his Harley, and spending time with friends. He was known to many of his friends as "Preacher", because he was always there to listen, help, and give advice to anyone who needed it. Russ was active and well known in the local community youth sports programs while his children were growing up. Russ treasured coaching football, baseball, basketball, and hockey where he earned his favorite nickname of "Coach Russ". Also through coaching, he formed a very special bond with his best friend whom he considered to be the brother he never had, Steve Taylor. ?
Russell is survived by Janell Stobaugh; Taylor Stobaugh; Tanner Stobaugh; and Trent Stobaugh; and many extended family members; and dear friends. ??Russell was preceded in death by mother Jean Stobaugh and father Joe Russell Stobaugh.

A celebration of life for Russell will be held Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 2PM a reception will follow from 3-5PM at 8011 Frankford Road Dallas, Texas 75252.

Although I only had occasional discussions and a causal acquaintance with Russ over the past few years, it was always a pleasure exchanging conversations with him. A man everyone would have had a pleasure of a personal benefit of knowing. RIP Friend.

I haven't seen Russ in years but as a young guy growing up at "end" of my street and teaching him-he was sweet, but opposite of his quiet sister. He knew his boundaries with his parents or at least most of the time. He grew up into a good man. Prayers for all of Russ's family -Alma Massey
