Russell V. "Andy" Anderson
Russell V (Andy) Anderson left his loving family Monday morning, January 16, 2012 to be with God, family and friends who passed before him.
Andy was born November 3, 1928 to Chris and Laura Anderson in Chebanse, Illinois. Andy attended school in Chebanse, Ill and then The Rockville Township School. He worked for Kankakee Hay Co, Florence Stove Co then A. O. Smith in Kankakee before being drafted into the Army In 1951.
Andy served his country for 20 years in the US Army and got to see many places around the world. While in the Army, Andy served 1 tour in the Korean War and 2 tours in the Vietnam War. While serving he received The Bronze Star for Ground Operations in the Republic of Vietnam from July 1964 to June 1965, he retired as a Sergeant.
Upon settling in Yuma in 1980 Andy displayed his pride of service to his country by respectfully flying the American Flag at his home every day.
Andy married Maggie Blair in 1991 and became a first time father of 4 adults and 4 grandchildren at the ripe young age of 63. Andy and Maggie are both active members of the Elks where Andy was recognized as Elk of the Year in 2001-02 and Officer of the Year 1997-98. In addition to these honors he was a Trustee for 5 years and was Chairman of the Investigations Committee for 17 years.
Andy and Maggie also loved Jazz and would travel to San Diego every fall for the Annual Jazz Festival.
Andy is survived by Maggie his wife of 21 years, daughters Diane ( Mark) Hansberger, Lynne (Mike) Pancrazi, Danelle (Dane) Palmer, son Dan Blair, and 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; brother, Don (Alice) Anderson, sister Marlene Ann Anderson, nephew Don (Elizabeth) Anderson.
Services will be held January 28, 2012 at the Elks Lodge, 10 am with a reception to follow at the Lodge. Remembrances may be made to the Elks National Foundation or Hospice of Yuma in his name.
