Almond, Ruth E. (Swackhamer), April 29, 1925 to November 3, 2012. Beloved wife of the late Robert S. Almond. Cherished Mother of Robert (Laura) and Grand-Mother of Christopher. Ruth was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church of Babylon where she taught Sunday School for 25+ years.
She was born in New Brunswick, NJ and raised in Babylon and West Babylon. She was a graduate of Babylon High School class of 1943. Ruth arranged several reunions for her classmates who have stayed in touch to this day.
During World War II Ruth worked at a Grumman plant in West Babylon, for which she recently received the "Rosie The Riveter" Award. Following the war she worked as a legal secretary until she was hired by New York State Parks. Ruth worked first as a secretary at Robert Moses State Park. Later she was promoted to the personnel dept. at regional headquarters. While there she was promoted again to the position of Administrative Assistant to regional management.
Ruth retired to Vero Beach, Florida in 1984 where she made many new friends. However, Babylon is, was, and forever will be her favorite place so she returned to Long Island in 1994. Recently she made a return to the home she grew up in and there, surrounded by her loving family and her aide of 1 year, quietly passed away.
Ruth's memory and positive attitude will be cherished by those who knew and loved her.

Robert, so sorry to hear of the passing of mom. I worked with Ruth at RMSP in the 70's. She actually ran that place. I will miss her dearly. She was one of a kind and the consummate professional. Rest in peace dear Ruth.

My best to you and your family Rob. Just heard about this tonight.
I worked with Ruth at RMSP in the mid-seventies. I knew all about you, and yes...we have met but you were too young to remember. I recall your trip with your Mom in the yellow Fury to the Mackinaw (sp) Islands! Your Mom was a fine, fine lady who always wanted nothing but the best for you. My best, Eddie Melton - was Bay Shore but now from Dallas.
