Mrs. Ruth I.V. Jones Alvis
Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth I.V. Jones Alvis, age 92 of Hanceville, will be held on Monday, March 8, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. At the Jones Chapel United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Jones Chapel Cemetery, with Rev. Sam Harton officiating. She will lie-in-state at the church for one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Alvis passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Hanceville Nursing Home. She was born on July 3, 1917 in Morgan County. She was the second child of Callie Davidson Jones and Robert W. Jones. Graduated as the salutatorian of her High School Class in Falkville in 1936. Her family moved to Cullman County in 1937 to the Jones Chapel Community, named for her paternal ancestors. She married Carl Wesley Alvis in June 1950. Prior to her marriage, she was a substitute teacher at Jones Chapel School. Mrs. Alvis was very active in the Jones Chapel United Methodist Church, until she moved to Cullman in 2003 for declining health reasons. She retired from Cullman Lingerie in 1982 with 29 years of service. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother, Rev. Willard M. Jones.
She is survived by her Daughter, Evelyn M. (Ronald) Wilson; one Son, Willard C. (Teresa) Alvis; five Grandchildren, Wendy (Ray) Echols, Billy (Samantha) Wilson; Christopher Alvis; Miranda Alvis and Nathan Alvis; and four Great-Grandchildren, Chelsey Laney; Chase Laney; Christian Echols and Chandler Echols.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, March 7, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
