Mrs. Buzhardt was born June 24, 1925 in Atlanta, TX and passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2011. She was a daughter of the late Joseph W. Joyner and Myrtis Gleaton Joyner. At the death of her parents, Ruth was only eight years old. Ruth along with her brothers and sister were brought to South Carolina where aunts and uncles opened their homes to all the children. Her maternal Aunt Florrie Spires and Uncle Simp Spires gave Ruth a home and Ruth acknowledged them as her mother and father and brothers and sister. At the age of seventeen, she went to work for Capital City Casket Company where she was employed for sixty-eight years with love and devotion for three generations of the owners, the McEntire family. Ruth enjoyed cooking for Sunday dinners for family and friends.
Mrs. Buzhardt is survived by her daughter, Carol B. McCombs of Gaston; two grandchildren who were the apple of her eye, Dusty Busher (Jeff) of Pelion and John L. "Bozie" Bodie, Jr. of Cayce and two great-grandchildren, MaKenna and Laken Busher; sister, Mary Francis Adams of Columbia and brother, Joe Don Spires (Lona) of Lexington. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl L. Buzhardt and brothers, Bill and Joe Joyner, Jimmy Blue, Toby, E.S., Norwood, Lowell and Kirk Spires and sister, Merle Spigner.
The family would like to thank the staff of Rapha Residential Care, Lexington Extended Care and the staff of Lexington Medical Center 6th floor for all their loving care and family support during her years of dementia and alzheimers. A special thank you to Senator Jake Knotts for his support.
