On Wednesday April 23rd. Ann Arbor lost one of her most colorful citizens. Ruth Dalitz peacefully passed away in the presence of her daughter, and niece after a strong and courageous fight against the heart attack that she suffered on Easter. Ruth was born in Detroit, Michigan. The only daughter of Karl and Gertrude (Way) Hennings. She graduated from North Western High School, before venturing to Mersed, California where she worked as a civilian with the US Army. When she returned to Ann Arbor, Ruth had a short-lived marriage where she bore her son, Michael Janci. Michael had a multitude of physical and mental challenges, and sadly lived for only a short time. In 1953, Ruth met the love of her life, Morrie Dalitz. They spent nearly 50 years together enjoying family and down town Ann Arbor. Morrie and Ruth had one daughter, Pam Dalitz, of Kalamazoo, MI. They enjoyed many happy years together. Ruth and Morrie could often be seen, walking downtown, sitting at restaurants and stopping to chat with friends on every single block. One of Ruth's favorite sayings was, "I AM old Ann Arbor". Ruth immensely enjoyed the last two years of life, at Glacier Hills Assisted Living. There, she made many friends and entertained staff with herhumor and her spontaneous dancing. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael Janci; husband Morris, (Morrie) Dalitz; special friend, Harriet Birch, and many canine companions. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Pam; special cousin, Doris Strite, as well as nieces and nephews, Jon, (Janet Wentworth) Strite, Jan, (Philip) Enns, Sandy, (Maxine) Blumenfeld, and her beloved grand dogs, Scotty and Kaiser Family would like to thank all of the wonderful staff at Glacier Hills, as well as the doctors, nurses and aids at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, who joined Ruth in her final fight, and gracefully supported her will to lie down and journey to her final destination. A celebration of Ruth's life will be held at Glacier Hills Assisted Living. 1200 Earhart Road. Ann Arbor, MI. at 2:00PM on Monday, May 5, 2014. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Leader Dogs for the Blind, the Humane Society, or the Ann Arbor Library.
