Ruth Marie Martinez passed away peacefully in Santa Barbara on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 with her husband Mac, and daughter Jeni at her side. Ruth was born in Selah, Washington on March 3, 1926.
Ruth graduated from Seattle Pacific University in 1949 with a Nursing Degree. She accepted a job at the Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago and began her career as a Registered Nurse RN. A year later, Ruth moved to San Jose, California in pursuit of blue skies and sunshine.
Ruth met her husband Mac while performing as a lovely pianist for the First Covenant Church in Willow Glen, San Jose. Mac and Ruth were married shortly thereafter and had four children - Calvin, Jeni, Brian and Denise. Sadly, she lost her first son Calvin in 1993. Denise married Liam Joyce and gave her two Grandsons, Calvin and Fionnan. Her brother Richard Lundberg, resides in Seattle, Washington.
Sporting an adventurous spirit, Ruth and Mac did quite a bit of traveling, spending 6 months, alternatively, in both Mexico and Sweden. In addition to playing the piano and being passionate about music, Ruth became an avid 49er and Laker's fan when she moved from San Jose to Santa Barbara in 1998.
Ruth will be remembered as a kind, compassionate, generous, thoughtful and caring Mother, friend, Aunt and Grandmother. She was faithful about sending cards, gifts, flowers and well-wishes to her loved ones. Ruth was also a faithful Christian and very spiritual. She enthusiastically would "cheer on" her loved ones whether it was for an achievement, or a stated dream or goal. She never forgot your birthday, anniversary or holiday. She listened intently, with all her heart, to the special people in her life. She was a gift to know and have in our lives.
Ruth's 58th Wedding Anniversary with Mac occurred the day before she passed away, March 24th, with a harpist playing soothing music in her room.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, Mac; children, Jeni, Brian and Denise Joyce (husband Liam); grandsons, Calvin and Fionnan; her brother, Richard Lundberg, relatives and friends.

Marcia Armstrong
Ruth, the precious lady with the sweet smile and a word of encouragement for everyone. I am grateful for her writing to my son while he was in the Navy. Our visits with her and Mac in Santa Barbara were so much fun, out to dinner and sharing San Jose memories. I feel privileged to have known her. Missing you Marcia and Ray Armstrong
