Ruth, 86, of Bergenfield, NJ passed away on August 18, 2013. She was the daughter of the late Ida and Max Spiegel. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Gerard Schlesinger, is survived by her brother Alfred and his wife Joyce, many nieces and nephews; three children--Leslie and his wife Wendy, Judith and her partner Claudia, and Davis; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her loving pet, Benji. Born in Bremen, Germany, Ruth emigrated to Chicago in 1938. She married in 1951 and raised her family in Bergenfield, NJ. Ruth was a holocaust survivor and a member of Fair Lawn Jewish Center Congregation Bnai Israel. Ruth was loving and good hearted, extremely independent, and involved in many charitable activities. Her family was the central part of her life. She passed away on August 18, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held at Gutterman & Musicant Funeral Directors, 402 Park Street, Hackensack, NJ immediately followed by her internment at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge, NJ. Shiva will be held at 47 Pomona Ave on Tuesday 7:00pm to 9:00pm, Wednesday and Thursday 2:00pm to 5:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm, and Friday at 2:00pm and 5:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the charity of your choice.

Ruth and I had wonderful times together during our childhood, now so many decades ago. My fond regards and sincere condolences to the entire clan from her cousin, the former Miriam Spiegel.
