Ruth Ann Shake, 89 of Greensburg, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Aspen Place Health Campus. Ruth Ann was born on October 7, 1927, in Montpelier, IN, the daughter of E. G. and Lutha (Yager) Brown. Ruth Ann graduated from Thorntown High School in 1945 and later graduated from Ball State University with her Master's Degree in Elementary Education. On June 25, 1950, she married Howard G. Shake in Thorntown, and he preceded her in death on May 18, 2003.
Ruth Ann worked as a school teacher in Decatur County for most of her career. She taught in St. Paul, Clarksburg and was on the original staff at North Decatur. She was a member of Community Church of Greensburg, past chairman of the Community Action Coalition, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Retired Teachers Association and attended Bible Study Fellowship for many years.
Survivors include her children – H. Wayne (Sarah) Shake and Shirley (Bill) Doles and granddaughters Michaela and Olivia Shake all of Greensburg. She was preceded in death by her sister Mary Ellen Dick and her brothers Bill and Jim Brown.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 from 4PM – 8PM at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home. Ruth Ann's Funeral Service will begin at 10AM on Wednesday, October 12 at Community Church of Greensburg with Rev. Barry Morton officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Church, Bible Study Fellowship or Our Hospice. Online condolences may be made at www.gilliland-howe.com.
