Ruthann Fornof, 78, passed away Monday, July 14th, at her home in Northridge, California with her family by her side. Ruthann Fornof, 78, passed away Monday, July 14th, at her home in Northridge, California with her family by her side.

She was born Ruthann Mildred Meising on November 26, 1935 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Stella (Pagick) and John Meising. Her entire life was devoted to her family. Growing up she was lucky enough to have two big brothers, Jim and Ed, looking out for and teasing her. This only increased the willfulness and spirit she was born with. While still a teenager, she met and married (twice) the love of her life, "Dic" Fornof. The two of them were married for 61 years, 9 months, and 8 days.

An avid collector, she often bragged that her first collection was her seven children. She wanted her kids to be involved citizens and give back to the community. Her daughter, Debbie, has been a lifelong contributor to others. In recent years, Debbie crochets hats for newborns at Northridge Hospital and for deployed services to be distributed by Operation Gratitude. Both her daughters were involved in scouting. Her daughter, Darlene, was a 1st class Girl Scout, top rank at the time. All five of her sons became Eagle Scouts. Considering the time and effort Ruthann put in, she earned all of those merit badges and ranks herself – five times over.

Ruthann went back to work after her kids were in school and continued at Sears for 27 years. Even after she retired they couldn't do without her for long and returned for a spell. Meanwhile she went back to school and received a college degree from Pierce College in 1993 to show her value of education. While there she put her friendly personality and gift of talking to good use and led tours of the Animal Farm on campus for years.

As a grandmother, there are no words to describe how wonderful she was. She made each activity, birthday, holiday, or celebration of any kind an event. You could always count on her having something to celebrate every day and making sure that her family and friends enjoyed themselves.

Besides being an amazing mother and grandmother, she always took a special interest in her many nieces and nephews. Even though distance has separated them she has always tried to keep in touch, to know details of their lives, and thought of them often.

Her later years were fraught with ill health and there were many medical struggles. She survived bouts in the hospital always shining through with a smile. This is how we hope you remember her.

Ruthann is survived by her husband, "Dic"; children, Debbie, Darlene (Bob) Fourriel, Richard Jr., Duane (Tiffany) of Simi Valley, Dwight (Melissa) of Tulare, and Darin (Christi) all of Northridge unless noted; brother Joseph Meising (Mary) of Pennsylvania, sister-in-law Louise Meising of Pennsylvania, brother-in-law James Fornof, Jr. of Pennsylvania, brother-in-law "Doc" Fornof of Hawaii, sister-in-law Maggie Fornof of Arizona. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Stephanie Margaret of Northridge, and Andrue, Raechel, Cynthya, Rebecka, and Symantha Barnes, Arryn Richard Fornof all of Texas.

Her son, Dennis, U.S. Navy, and her brother, Ed Meising, preceded her in death.

Flowers may be sent to 23287 N. Sierra Highway, Newhall, CA 91321 for funeral services to be held at Eternal Valley Memorial Park on Monday, July 21st, 2014 at 11 am. A small reception will follow at the family home.
