Sabino (Sam) Martinez Alvarado Tucson Businessman dies at 93. Sabino (Sam) Martinez Alvarado was born on March 14, 1919 in El Paso, TX. Sam passed away on June 7, 2012. Sam served in the Army Air Force during WWII, with the 458th Bombardment Group, Honorably Discharged in December 1945. He worked as a welder on the first oil pipeline in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia for Bechtel Oil in the late '40s until 1951, when he arrived in Tucson and established the Alvarado Music Company. He was the first Mexican-American to operate a jukebox and amusement business for well over 60 years, both in Tucson and South Tucson. He was a very civic-minded individual and had assisted with the recent renovation of the El Casino Ballroom here in Tucson. A member of the American Legion Post 68 and the VFW Post 10015. Sam enjoyed flying his favorite airplane a 1939 Stinson SR-9 that he helped reconstruct. Sam is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hilda Alvarado; stepsons, Alfred J. Quiroz (Marcia), Wilfred Q. Castano (Camilla) and adopted-daughter, Mary E. Alvarado. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Gil Castiano, Demian Quiroz (Giada) and James Quiroz; great-grandchildren, Angelique Alvarado, Matthew Alvarado and Jason Quiroz will also miss him. Services will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2012, 10:00 a.m. Rosary: Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Margaret's Church, 801 N. Grande Ave. Burial to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. Arrangements by DESERT ROSE CREMATION AND BURIAL.
