Celebrating the life of

Sadhu Singh Bains

March 15, 1918 - February 22, 2011

Sadhu Singh Bains was born on March 15, 1916 in the village of Kandola, dist: Jalandhar. He was the third son of Sher S. Bains and Bhani K. Bains. He was also the father of 5 children, 16 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Sadhu Singh was a man of quiet strength, courage, and independence. Being 92, age was never a factor in his everyday life. We have known a man who was always independent even until his very last day.

One of his greatest strengths was having a sharp memory. He would always be the first to remember people, places, and dates. To his grandchildren he was always their best friend. He would always be the first to encourage them, to do well in school, reward them for their achievements, and watch them succeed. On his own, he would love to read, garden, travel, bus around, and go bike riding.

Sadhu Singh will always be remembered as the man with a big heart. He may have left us, but his laugh will always be left in the hearts of his loved ones. As our lives move forward, his beliefs, words, and memories will always remain to guide us to the life he lived. He will be missed beyond words can even express.

It is hard to find the words to explain the sadness Papaji has left behind, for he touched so many lives in so many ways. He was a man with a wealth of information, love, compassion, a calming nature and most of all one of the most warming smiles ever. The kindness and great respect he treated everyone with was admirable and his outlook to life was something we should all learn from. For him no hurdle was too tough to overcome - and from the stories we all heard he had overcome so many to get his family to where they now are.

For those that knew him well will know that even at an old age he had an amazing technical ability. I will never forget my first trip to Canada and how he showed me his bucket full of garden tools - most of which he had made from items most of would have thrown away. Each tool carefully crafted to care for his abundance of crop - of which he took great pride in growing and harvesting. For us no trip to Canada will be the same for there will be no more early morning Paath coming from his room, no conversations about the news/current affairs, no sipping tea in the garden and nobody to lovingly call me Reenu!!

As we all fight back the tears at this sad time, we should also celebrate Papaji's life and his achievements. And be thankful that we were lucky enough to have such a great man in our presence. He will always be watching down on his loved ones with his golden smile and will always be in our thoughts. Papaji will be sadly missed by us all.

Papa Ji no one is like you. No one can replace the love you gve us in our lives. You were a father to not only ur children but a father to ppl like me. We all wish to become like you one day and follow ur footsteps and we're very proud to be related to u. You always cared about everyone and no one can replace that either. You were the most encouriging person to all of ur children,Grand children and even Great grand children. You always wanted Pramveer to become something big and I promise that i will try my best to do that. When my dad left this world I didnt realize the importance of him leaving but now that you have left I realize the emptiness in our lives. I believe that one day I will see you again. Even if your present in this world, you'll always be there in our hearts. We miss u alot And love you always.

Papaji,

You were a great person and a great role model for all us grandkids. You always encouraged us to succeeed in life and do well in our studies and to become successful in life. You always rewarded us for our achievements and always kept us in check with our grades in school. Thank you so much for being a great part of my life since the day I was born. I am very fortunate to have grown up in ur presence and I will make sure I make you proud. I know you would have jumped with joy this week after knowing I have succeeded in my studies and started a new career. I would not have done it without you encouragement. I know that your blessing will always be with me. You will be greatly missed by Jerry and I. I know you are in a better place and hopefully one day we will meet again. May you Rest In Peace Papaji

You were a great man and an inspiration to us all. The love you shared towards your siblings, children and grandchildren is something I always admired about you. I will always cherish the time we spent together when you visited Toronto. One of the things I will miss most about you is spending time with you and babaji together. The way you laughed and reflected on your childhood memories will always remain in my heart.
You were a very special person and will be missed. Rest in peace.

Babaji, you were a great man and an inspiration to us all. The love you had towards your siblings, children and grandchildren is something I always admired about you and I will always cherish the time we spent together. The thing I will perhaps miss most about you, is spending time with you and babaji – the way you laughed and reflected on your childhood memories will always remain in my heart.
You were a very special person and will be missed. Rest in peace.

They say the greatest thing a man can bestow upon his children and grand-children are knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge of the past, important days and events, historical facts and key ideas that shaped the new world. Knowledge we can gain from books, but not wisdom. Wisdom of self, wisdom of past events and situations and scenarios that help shape and create, teach wrong and right, help hurdle obstacles and rise from failure not disappointed, but ready and hungry to succeed. I always found it funny how in our family we never really called anyone Babaji, we'll not me atleast, for Nanaji it's always Chachaji, and for Babaji it was always Big T. I may not be the closest to my family, and I may not always share when I should, but never forget that I'm always here for any of you. Big T was a great man, a great son, a great brother, a great father, uncle, and grand-father. The times I met you, you would always tell stories with such enthusiasm that you could tell as the story was being told, it was being played out bit by bit in your head. You were always positive and left a legacy which we should all continue, the legacy of our ancestors. We now live in a time of change, where the true past may be forgotten, never forget the stories Babaji has told you, never forget the struggles they've faced, we live to remember, we live to continue, we live to live on for our ancestors. You taught us to believe.

Rest In Peace Babaji
One day, whether near or far;
Everyone will once again be together.

Manpreet Bains and The Bains Family

For our generation, you were the head of the family, the one we all looked up to and the one so many turned to. When I think of you, the memories of the times you came over to England come to mind, such as seeing you, Pua Ji and Baba Ji together in one room. However, the one that brings a smile to my face and I’m sure to many others reading this, is how you, often along with Baba Ji could bring everyone together no matter what their age for a game of cards, where we heard so many of your stories. You were a great man, with a big heart and the most memorable smile and I'm sure that those you have left behind will do you and our family proud. You will remain in our thoughts forever and until we meet again, rest in peace.

I've never met anyone who lived life to the fullest like you did. What you did in one life time most people couldn't have done in two. Always a smile on your face and love for everyone around you. I remember the time we spent together when everyone went to India and it was pleasure to have spent so much time to really get to know how much of a genuine, caring, and lovable person you are. From making me tea every morning when i was sick to playing cards and talking about life, you were always one of my favorite people and I cherished every moment I spent with you. You will be missed dearly but I know where ever you are now just got a lot better with your presence. You will always be in our hearts, R.I.P.

You were a great man and role model to us all. Whenever I talked to you I knew I was speaking to someone who has been through far more than I can ever imagine. You loved your family and I’m sure you will still be watching over us from wherever you are. I look forward to another one of your stories the next time we meet, but until then, rest in peace Babaji.
With Love,

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
