Sally Baker Obituary

Sally Ann Jarrell Baker, age 70, of Collierville, Tennessee, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, February 16, 2011. Mrs. Baker was born on February 19, 1940, in Alexandria, Louisiana. She is the daughter of the late Barbara Ann Scott Jarrell of Stigler, Oklahoma and the late Henry Willis Jarrell, Jr., of Homer, Louisiana. Mrs. Baker was a registered nurse and received her associate's degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin and later received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville. She was a member and long time supporter of the Chi Omega sorority, Phi Zeta Chapter at McNeese State University. She worked as clinical pharmaceutical research associate until her retirement. Mrs. Baker was a long time resident of Fulton, Kentucky and South Fulton, Tennessee, where she was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was also a resident of Nashville, Tennessee, and moved to Collierville, Tennessee after moving away from the Gulf Coast following Hurricane Katrina in 2006. Survived by her husband of 51 years, Gene Key Baker, of Louisville, Mississippi, the couple was married on December 29, 1949. Her children are Michael Jarrell Baker (Beth) of Birmingham, Alabama, and Barbara L. Baker Binford (Greg) of Collierville, Tennessee. Mrs. Baker has three grandchildren, Kathryn Ann Baker and Michael Alexander Baker of Birmingham and Allison Grace Binford of Collierville. Mrs. Baker has one sister, Mary Jarrell Fontenot (Mike) of Humble, Texas. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many friends throughout the country.



A memorial service was held Friday, February 18, at 2:00 p.m. at Covenant Baptist Church, 3170 Houston Levee Road, Collierville, Tennessee. Pastor Sam Brassell officiating. According to her request, Mrs. Baker will be cremated and will be interred at West Tennessee State Veteran's Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill-Irene Road, Memphis, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Cornerstone Class at Covenant Baptist Church, 3170 Houston Levee Road, Collierville, Tennessee 38017 or to Page Robbins Adult Day Care Center (Dementia / Alzheimer's Care), 1961 South Houston Levee Road, Collierville, TN 38017.

Dear Baker Family,
Sally was always so good to me. First of all she didn't look at me with judgemental eyes. I always felt her love was unconditional and true. Second, There were many times I would have had to go to school looking pretty shabby if not for Sally giving me shoes, belts, shirts and whatever else she thought I needed, never once asking me for a dime. Third, This was not some isolated case of charity, but I found out that she was always helping all kinds of folks all the time. Fourth, Sally filled gaps!, We all have gaps. Important people in our lives that are missing for one reason or another, parental gaps, sibling gaps, children gaps, friend gaps and so on. Sally helped fill gaps. It is my opinion that heaven became a little richer on Februrary 16, 2011 and earth became a little poorer. May God bless the Baker Family and all those that are grieving over the loss of this great lady. Paul Adams
