Sam "Irvin" Adams, 80, of 4699 Stones Dairy Road, Bassett, died Monday, July 4, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Patrick County on February 12, 1931 to the late Emmett G. Adams and Posie L. Joyce Adams. He was a self employed truck driver for more than forty years. He was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the choir.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Christine A. Koger and two brothers, Robert and Roy Adams.

He is survived by his Fiancé of twenty years, Minnie Lou Belcher of Stuart, Godson, Tre' Foley of Tennessee, seven sisters and five brothers-in-law; Nina A. Spencer of Fieldale, Irene A. Philpott of Bassett, Aileen A. Handy and husband James of Martinsville, Louise Campbell and husband Hilbert of Fieldale, Mary Frances A. Stone and husband David of Bassett, Betty Clark and husband Ray of Bassett and Brenda Bishop and husband Charles of Bassett, one brother and sister-in-law; Rev. Oscar and Alice Mofield Adams of Bassett, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2011 in the Collins-McKee-Stone Bassett Chapel with Pastor Tom Teems officiating. Interment will be in the Old Center Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011 in the Collins-McKee-Stone, Bassett Chapel and other times at the home on Stones Dairy Road, Bassett.

The family has requested that memorials be made to the donor's choice.

Always in our heart. Irvin was an inspiration to everyone who knew him. He was so faithful at Mill Creek. He was faithful til the end, coming to church when we knew he was in pain. He will certainly be missed. No one can fill his place.
