Samuel Newell (Red) Chambers, 71, of Abilene, TX went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 5, 2013. His wife of 48 years, Babe, was by his side. A memorial service to celebrate Sam's life will be held at 1:00p.m., Monday, February 11, 2013 at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, TX, with The Rev. Msgr. Frederick G. Nawarskas officiating. There is a pending celebration in the spring at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Emlenton, PA, where Sam will be laid to rest. Samuel Newell (Red) Chambers, 71, of Abilene, TX went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 5, 2013. His wife of 48 years, Babe, was by his side. A memorial service to celebrate Sam's life will be held at 1:00p.m., Monday, February 11, 2013 at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, TX, with The Rev. Msgr. Sam was born August 21, 1941, in Boyers, PA, to Rosetta and Wilfred Chambers. He married the love of his life, Babe Roberts on February 3, 1965. Sam proudly served in the U.S. Army. He owned the Emlenton Tire Shop prior to moving to Colorado, and at his retirement in 2003 he was a Heavy Equipment/Team Leader III for Larimer County, CO for 23 years.
Sam enjoyed riding his horses, dancing, traveling, remodeling houses, "playing in the dirt" with his tractor, and spending time with his family. He was a long time member of the VFW, The Northern Colorado Quarter Horse Association, and the ELKS.
Preceding him in death were his parents; grandparents; four brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include his wife, Babe of Abilene; a son, Mathew Chambers and wife, Annette of Abilene; daughters, Elizabeth Chambers of Princeton, MN, and Becky Orr of Loveland, CO; one brother, James Chambers and wife, Ruth of Auburn, MA; four sisters, Julia Grieff and Janet Chambers of Emlenton, PA, Marilyn White of Wilmington, NC, Dianna Leya and husband, Dick of Wake Forest, NC; nine grandchildren, Charles Cash and wife, Pockets, Bailey Chambers, Sam Chambers, Evan Johnson, Jesse Grotjohn, Heather Grotjohn, Jordan Grotjohn, Brett Tovar, and Travis Orr; and numerous nieces and nephews.
