Sandra Matthews Aeschliman, 71, departed this life January 3, 2012, into the arms of her Everlasting Father and the fellowship of the saints. Eternal Hills Funeral Home in Snellville, Georgia is in charge of the arrangements and a visitation will be held there on Friday, January 6th, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 7th at Parkview Church in Lilburn, Georgia. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Sandra's memory to Parkview Church, Missions Committee, 4875 Lilburn Stone Mountain Rd., Lilburn, GA 30047.
Born April 1, 1940 to Robert Frank Matthews and Mary Atkinson Matthews of Grenada, MS, Mrs. Aeschliman attended Belhaven College. She was voted "Most Beautiful" her sophomore year both for her outward appearance and for her heart. She earned her bachelor's degree in Education before marrying the love of her life, Richard "Ash" Aeschliman, June 17, 1962. Together, they spent 49 years building a life in service to the Lord.
Mrs. Aeschliman's chief end throughout her life was in keeping with the Westminster Catechism, "to glorify God and enjoy Him forever." She lived out her faith in many roles. She had a passion for gardening and knitting. Her mother taught her beautiful handiwork, and she often would knit gifts for others. As a pastor's wife, she was a faithful partner in serving their congregation. Her home was always open providing endless hospitality. The fellowship led to much laughter around the table. As a young mother, she joyfully taught her children the gospel of Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord, and was a prayer warrior for them on a daily basis. She was their biggest fan at every school play, sporting event, and special ceremony. She was also a doting grandmother to ten grandchildren who appropriately called her "Honey". She taught them piano, modeled compassion and kindness, and showered them with affection. She, again, used her heart's capacity to cheer these children on, not only at various sporting events, but also to the foot of the Cross. Her unconditional love and devotion to her family was unmeasured.
In her career, she was a gifted teacher. She taught piano, Sunday School, high school English and English as a second language. This was her mission field. She took a special interest in each student and loved seeing them attain new goals. This love was reciprocated, and, again, laughter would abound in her classroom. She also travelled to China, Ecuador, and Peru on short term mission trips to teach English and spread the Good News.
Sandra Aeschliman's survivors include her husband of almost 50 years, Richard (Ash), of Stone Mountain; her children: Missy Lochstampfor and her husband Michael of Gainesville, GA; Libby Dunahoo and her husband John of Lawrenceville, GA; Rich Aeschliman, Jr. of Peachtree City, GA; and Rachel McVey and her husband Will of Braselton, GA; nine grandchildren, nieces and nephews. After a courageous battle with cancer, her soul has found its resting place in the glory of Emmanuel's land. She has fought the good fight and has finished the race. To Him be all the praise

Ash performed the wedding for my husband Bill & me at Westminster in Elgin in 1968. I am so thankful to have had Sandra as a friend as new wife. Later when we had boy-girl twins, Sandra was the first to call to offer congratulations and help. We treasure our friendship with the Aeschliman family. May our gracious Heavenly Father keep you close.

I was so saddened to hear of Sandra's passing. She was my first mentor while growing up in the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Elgin, IL. I will never forget her huge smile, hearty laugh, great faith, contagious love for the Lord, & the fantastic conversations we shared about the things of God. Much love to Pastor Aeschliman, Missy, Libby, Rich, Rachel, & the rest of her family.

Just wanted the family to know I care. Sandra was a true professional who approached each day with a positive attitude. I have many fond memories of her when she taught at Towers.

Dick and family, I am so saddened to learn of Sandra's death. I'm sure she and Tom are visiting and "catching up" today. I'm so sorry I can't be there with you now, but due to an accident last week and subsequent concussion and broken wrist, I'm unable to travel.
I loved Sandra very much. She was a precious friend. What a beautiful smile she always had.
My deepest sympathy to all of you. May our Lord comfort and sustain you each and every day.
Love,
Nancy Kelley

Sandra was a dear friend when we were both students at Belhaven College in Jackson, Mississippi. She was a blessing to all that knew her. Her precious smile will always be remembered. My thoughts and prayers are with all of her family during this time. We take comfort in knowing she has found peace in her heavenly home free from all pain and suffering.

Sandra was a wonderful example as a faithful pastor's wife, loving mother, dedicated teacher and most of all a very special friend from the time we first met she and Ash in Westminster Presbyterian Church in Elgin, Illinois. Proverbs 31 always reminds me of her: "Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she SMILES at the future. She opens her mouth in wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and bless her; her husband also. . ." We thank the Lord that He blessed us with her friendship and we pray for His comfort for Ash and Missy, Libby, Rich & Rachel and their families. "Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His godly ones."

I will always appreciate the kindness and friendliness that the Aeschliman's showed my parents while attending SMHS football games. Though I didn't know the Aeschliman's very well, I admire the job that they both did as parents and followers of Christ and hope that my wife and I can model their example well. I'm sure that she has already heard, "well done good and faithful servant."

Although we never met, I know Mrs. Aeschliman was an exceptional person by the example of her daughter, Rachel and her family. We are deeply saddened by their loss and will continue to keep them in our prayers and hold them in our hearts.

I enjoyed working with Sandra at GED Testing Service; we were both essay readers. Her knowledge of English and gardening was encyclopedic. She will be missed.

Sandra was such a loving and thoughtful pastor's wife while she and Ash were at Westminster Presbyterian in Elgin, IL. She was so generous and hospitable and no one was a stranger to her. We all loved her and she and Ash had a warm spot in our hearts, as well as the children! Heaven is much richer for her presence now. Love and sympathy to All, Norma Bobbitt

Mrs. Aeschliman was so thoughtful and kind. When my family starting attending Grace Presbyterian in the mid 80's she made me feel so welcomed to the church and youth group.
I loved the sound of her laughter and look forward to hearing it again.

First met Sandra when she was a part time teacher at Towers High. We became fast friends as we had so much in common....Presbyterian roots and four kids. It was great when she came to Towers full time. She was a great addition to our English Dept. She later talked me into following her in getting certified in ESOL. We often met on Fridays after school for coffee and girl talk. She made it to my wedding in 2009 even though she was then fighting cancer! She was my Christian sister and I'm so grateful that God put her on my earthly path. We'll meet again, Sandra! What joy must be yours today as you fellowship with the angels!
