Sandra Elise Turner was born March 15, 1959 in Manhasset, New York to Iley Pearsal Hersey, Sr. and Verneice Lyons. She was the younger of two children. Sandra peacefully departed this life on May 5, 2012, a beloved and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and a friend. Sandra was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns Episcopal Church in Hempstead, New York

She attended Hempstead High where she was apart of many social groups and organizations. As a teenager growing up in New York, Sandra discovered a love for dance, particularly in modern jazz and in African dance, her favorite. Her love of the art let her to perform with an African dance troop for many years. After high school, Sandra proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, where she served 12 years as a supply and procurement technician for Air Force One. She was honorably discharged in 1992. Sandra was presently working, as a Para-Legal, at Banc of America Merchant Services, where she was both loved and respected.

In life, Sandra was most proud of the wonderful joy found in her 28 year marriage to Kenneth, and the happiness of being Kristen's mother. She went above and beyond for her family. And knowing she provided all she could for them was all the joy she ever needed in life.

If you knew Sandra you would also know that she was a true blue fan of the singing group "The Whispers", Sandra and Ken would attend their concerts all over the country. This made her extremely happy!

Its not often you meet a person with a special presence about them. "Sandy" as she was affectionately called, had that very special presence. She had a loving spirit, noticed by everyone she met. A shoulder to lean on by those in need of support, and always offering great advice to those looking for direction. Sandra was selfless to a default, giving without complaint. Her smile brought great joy and calm to those around her.

Sandra is predeceased in death by her father Iley Pearsall Hersey, Sr. and brother, Iley P. Hersey Jr. She leaves to cherish her precious memory: mother, Verneice Hersey; her devoted husband Kenneth Turner ; daughter, Kristen Turner, all of Charlotte NC; step son, Christopher Turner(Sheboygan,WI) step daughter, Adrienne Turner(Vallejo ,Ca); two nieces, Heather and Latoya Hersey (Columbia ,SC); cousins, Catherine Canty and Carole Jackson(Far Rockaway NY); Horace and Lucy Moore(Teaneck, NJ), Evangelists Adrian and Pandora Hersey (Glen Cove, NY); Alcenia Holmes and Robert Moore(Wilmington, NC); Shirley Harris (New York);Leon Moore (Pennsylvania); Victor Hussey (Greensboro, NC); Lorraine Hussey Clark(Atlanta, GA); Wanda Williams (Wilmington, NC); special friends, Priscilla and Kyle Chambliss with God children Lynette and Terrance (Maryland), God children Taylor and Dean Gaul; friend/sister to our family Lynn Porter-Carlos with a special niece and nephew Dawauna and Duane Carlos (Hempstead,NY)
