Sally Swope Flint, 74, of Columbus, Indiana, died peacefully at 4:17 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012, with her family by her side at the Butterfly Wing of the Hospice of Baton Rouge in Baton, Rouge, Louisiana, following a long and courageous fight against lung cancer. Mrs. Flint was born May 14, 1937, in Indianapolis, IN. She was the daughter of Joe Allen and Henrietta Morris Swope of Columbus. She attended Columbus High School, Northwester University and Indiana University where she was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. She married Mark E. Engledow in 1958 and Glenn L. Flint in 1963. Sally Swope Flint, 74, of Columbus, Indiana, died peacefully at 4:17 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012, with her family by her side at the Butterfly Wing of the Hospice of Baton Rouge in Baton, Rouge, Louisiana, following a long and courageous fight against lung cancer.
Mrs. Flint was born May 14, 1937, in Indianapolis, IN. She was the daughter of Joe Allen and Henrietta Morris Swope of Columbus. She attended Columbus High School, Northwester University and Indiana University where she was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority.
She married Mark E. Engledow in 1958 and Glenn L. Flint in 1963. She and Glen were married 42 years before his death on March 4, 2005. Sally and Glenn were longtime members of the Harrison Lake Country Club, of which her father was a founder.
Sally was a member of the First Baptist Church in Columbus and the Psi Iota Xi Sorority. She participated in Bible study fellowship, owned an interior design business, was an artist, swimmer and tennis player. She was an avid baseball and college basketball fan. Sally loved being with her family and spending time with her many good friends. She was a lifelong resident of Columbus because she felt there was no better place on earth to live.
Mrs. Flint was preceded in death by her parents and a half brother, James G. Perry. She is survived by her brother, Joe A. (Roxanne) Swope Jr. of Columbus; daughter Ellen Flint (Phil) Godfrey of Baton Rouge, LA; son Eric Reeves (Victoria) Flint of Silverdale, WA; and a stepdaughter Diane Flint (Reid) Robison of Provo, Utah. She has seven grandchildren: Sarah R. Godfrey, Margaret P. Godfrey, T. Fielding Godfrey II, Gracie B. Flint, Esther E. Flint, Samuel R. Flint and Joel A Flint. She also has five stepgrandchildren; Joelle Robison Staley, Jennifer Robison Moyer, Reid J. Robison, Jeremiah F. Robison, James A. Robison; and 17 stepgreat-grandchildren. Sally is also survived by a niece, Laura Swope (Dan) Shoultz, and a nephew, John Matthew (Kim S.) Swope.
Calling hours will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012, at the First Baptist Church, 3300 Fairlwn Drive, Columbus, IN. A funeral service celebrating her life will immediately follow at the church. A private family entombment will take place at the Garland Brook Mausoleum.
