Sarah D. Scott (formerly Seale), 65, passed away peacefully at Park Ridge Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee on August 8 after a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer earlier this year.
Sarah was a caring wife and mother, a free spirit and a small-time diva whose bright smile brought joy and light into everything she did. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma she was a proud Okie who grew up in Dewey, Oklahoma. She was a true flower child of the 60's (with plenty of rebellious stories she loved to tell) and carried that peaceful, loving spirit throughout her life. Despite her gentle soul, she had a quiet strength and a pragmatic attitude that was and still is a source of inspiration and comfort to all those around her.
In 1978 she was married to Danny and they had two children Lacy and Aaron, before they settled in Northwest, Georgia. Her passion for education (reading in particular) led her to work in school libraries, inspiring children to read until her retirement in 2011. After marrying her husband, Don in 2010 they were able to spend their retirement on new adventures and traveling the world with wonderful friends. Whether it was the back roads of Tennessee or somewhere more exotic, she always like to explore new places. She never lost her love of learning and she often taught her granddaughter, Emma, the wonders of the world whether it was simply a lesson in all the uses for shea butter or how to appreciate the everyday beauty in our lives.
Sarah loved so many things in this life among those were; the tinkling bells, good oatmeal, beautiful trees, the color purple, The Color Purple, fairies and trolls (the cute kind), mushrooms, flowers, the Beatles, random acts of kindness, a flowing scarf, being a mom, reality TV, shopping, dispensing all her hard, worn worldly wisdom, puzzles and puns, extra fabric softener, fringe, fringe culture and crocheting items for friends, family and any newborn she met.
Sarah always seemed to sparkle with an effervescent energy and the world feels a little flat without her in it.
Survivors include her husband, Don; two children, Lacy and Aaron both of Chattanooga, Tennessee; sister, Susan of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; brother, David of Broken Arrow Oklahoma; granddaughter, Emma and two grand-cats, Charlemagne and Gracie, who she was allergic to but loved anyway.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, August 10 at the East Brainerd Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Tennessee Oncology, Avalon Hospice, and the staff of Parkridge Medical Center for their care and compassion throughout her illness. Sarah (Sally, we called her) was a dear friend from grade school and high school. She lived with my family for a year, then we moved to downtown Tulsa and lived at the YWCA.....then she and I moved to Stillwater, Ok and shared an apartment for a while. We were hippies, flower children and what you call a 'wild child'. Both of us. I loved those years with her we were such free spirits. I remember when she went to see the Rolling Stones in Dallas. I can't remember if she was with me at the Jimi Hendrix concert in Norman, Ok. :) I lost track of her and have been looking for her for several years but unfortunately didn't find her before she left this earth. Here's a picture of her in grade school. She was so pretty. Wish I could find the pictures of our hippie years. Here's to you, my sweet friend. Peace & Love
