Sarah Valdez Avila 80, of Brookshire, Texas, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 7, 2011. Sarah was born in Houston, Texas on March 31, 1931. She was raised by her beloved grandparents, Selsa and Fred Gloria. Theirs was a large family of ten. Growing up she loved dressing up and attending matinee's downtown. She met Joe Valdez, Jr. in Port Arthur, Texas while visiting relatives and never looked back. They were married July 28, 1956. Together they raised three daughters, Dora, Jo, and Liz. She was a fulltime homemaker who loved cooking and caring for her family. On June 9, 1987 Joe went home to be with the Lord....
Sarah Valdez Avila 80, of Brookshire, Texas, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 7, 2011. Sarah was born in Houston, Texas on March 31, 1931. She was raised by her beloved grandparents, Selsa and Fred Gloria. Theirs was a large family of ten. Growing up she loved dressing up and attending matinee's downtown. She met Joe Valdez, Jr. in Port Arthur, Texas while visiting relatives and never looked back. They were married July 28, 1956. Together they raised three daughters, Dora, Jo, and Liz. She was a fulltime homemaker who loved cooking and caring for her family. On June 9, 1987 Joe went home to be with the Lord. God blessed Sarah twice by bringing Manuel Avila into her life, a childhood acquaintance. They married on April 22, 1991. They lived in Brookshire, Texas. On January 30, 2005 Manuel went home to be with the Lord. Sarah was a former member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Port Arthur, Texas. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her three daughters: Dora Lowery, of Bridge City, Texas; Jo Griffith, and husband Nat, of Brookshire, Texas; Ellen Wood, and husband Jimmy, of Vidor, Texas. She is also survived by one brother, Zaragosa Gloria, of Houston, Texas and seven grandchildren.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, June 10, 2011 from 4pm-9pm at Grammier Oberle Funeral Home, Port Arthur. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10am, Saturday, June 11, 2011,at Grammier Oberle Funeral home with interment to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Pastor Jack Gandy of Johnson Bayou Baptist Church will be officiating.
