Sarah (Sally) Pickells Burrill of Eastham died peacefully at home at the age of 82 on Wednesday May 2, 2012. She was born to Reverend John Pickells and Edna Bell Ferguson Pickells on March 26 1930 in Burns, Oregon. She attended Bennington College in Vermont as a vocal major. She married Robert (Bob) M. Burrill of Livermore Falls, Maine in 1949. They moved to Fort Hill in Eastham in 1961 where they established a magnificent homestead on the old Gunn Farm, located in the Cape Cod National Seashore. Sarah (Sally) Pickells Burrill of Eastham died peacefully at home at the age of 82 on Wednesday May 2, 2012. She was born to Reverend John Pickells and Edna Bell Ferguson Pickells on March 26 1930 in Burns, Oregon. She attended Bennington College in Vermont as a vocal major. She married Robert (Bob) M. Burrill of Livermore Falls, Maine in 1949. They moved to Fort Hill in Eastham in 1961 where they established a magnificent homestead on the old Gunn Farm, located in the Cape Cod National Seashore. Here she and Bob raised their children and had many gatherings for family and friends as well as inviting Fresh Air Fund children from New York City, Raphael and Freddy, to their home for summer and Christmas vacations for over 15 years. They also welcomed Willie, a foreign exchange student from Brazil, as a member of their family in 1967.
Sally was very active in community theatre and played starring roles in many productions including Fiddler on the Roof, Mame, and Hello Dolly. She sang with the Provincetown Choral Society where she played the mother roll in Amahl and the Night Visitors. She also served as costume designer and seamstress for countless productions.
She is survived by her sister Maggie Bartlett of Eastham; children Lizzie, Becky, Amy, Jenny, Barney, Sarah and Hanna; Grandchildren include Orpheus, Simon, Tessa, Elfin, Emily, Cameron, Caroline, Rachel, Molly, Adora, Martha, Airlina, LaRosey, Morgan, and Riley. Great grandchildren include Mercedes, Nicholas, Jayden and Eliajah.
She is predeceased by three children, Martha, Nellie and Andrew; husband Robert M. Burrill 1985; sister Betsy 1983; Father Reverend John Pickells 1980; brother John Pickells 1972; and mother Edna Bell Pickells 1948.
A service will be held at the Church of the Holy Spirit, Orleans, on Monday May 7 at 11 AM. Reception following the service at her home, Fort Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations to SmileTrain in the name of Sarah P. Burrill will be gratefully appreciated.
