Mrs. Smith, 70, of Monroe, NC, passed away on April 21, 2013, in the Harris Hospice Unit at Presbyterian Hospital-Main.

She was born on Oct. 1, 1942, in Adairville, KY, to the late Maurice Halliburton Rogers, Sr., and Miriam Eleanor Hipple Rogers.

Sarah was a graduate of Olmstead High School (1960-KY) and Kentucky Wesleyan College (1964). She was an elementary school teacher for over 30 years in the Logan County (KY) School System (Adairville Elementary). Her love of children carried on after retirement as she moved from her home in Kentucky to South Carolina to help care for her grandchildren and lovingly influence their lives. They will misstheir "Nana" tremendously and will especially miss having her read to them. She loved to cross stitch and quilt and was an excellent cook. She was a University of Kentucky college basketball fan and a Chicago Cubs fan as well. Sarah was a strong spirited, sacrificing, hard working mother. She loved her children and grandchildren with all of her heart.

Rogers (Carole), Adairville, KY, and Maurice "Buddy" H. Rogers, Jr. (Arlene), Hixson, TN; her sister, Ann Bates Rogers Clark (Wayne), Columbia, SC; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
