Sarah Elizabeth Mallard Yarbrough joined the saints on Tuesday night, just 3 days shy of her 98th birthday. She was born in Augusta, Georgia on May 25, 1914 to her parents, Lilla Rosalie Videtto Mallard and Matthew Alexander Mallard, and her loving aunt, Alma Floy Videtto. She attended public schools in Augusta and graduated from Tubman High School in 1930. She graduated from Augusta Junior College (now Augusta State University) in 1932, and Georgia State College for Women (now Georgia College) in 1934 with a degree in mathematics. Sarah Elizabeth Mallard Yarbrough joined the saints on Tuesday night, just 3 days shy of her 98th birthday. She was born in Augusta, Georgia on May 25, 1914 to her parents, Lilla Rosalie Videtto Mallard and Matthew Alexander Mallard, and her loving aunt, Alma Floy Videtto.

She attended public schools in Augusta and graduated from Tubman High School in 1930. She graduated from Augusta Junior College (now Augusta State University) in 1932, and Georgia State College for Women (now Georgia College) in 1934 with a degree in mathematics. She taught in Augusta public schools for nine years.

She married John McDonald Yarbrough on June 2, 1943, and moved to Charlotte with him and their young daughter in January 1947, after World War II.

Sarah was a member of Woodlawn Methodist Church in Augusta. She was a charter member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Charlotte where she taught Sunday School, was Sunday School Superintendent, and was involved in many other activities throughout the years. She was a life member of United Methodist Women, Circle #1, and the Nell Dick Bible Class. She loved God and her Church family.

She was a member of Carmel Country Club, where she played bridge for over fifty years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, many aunts and uncles, sisters Kathryn, Lillian and Louisa, brothers Matthew and Wade, and many nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her daughter Kathryn, son John, granddaughter Ashley, grandson John, and one beloved four-legged little girl named Misty.

Sarah was a one-of-a-kind sparkling, brilliant jewel. She will be deeply missed by her family and her dear friends.

The family wishes to thank all those who supported them with love, prayers and kindness these past few months, especially Evadne (Nada), Betty, Tere, Paula, and Edith.

A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Elmwood Cemetery.
