.
Passed away peacefully Tuesday evening December 9th, 2014 with Tanis and Savannah at his side in their mountain home at Silver Star Resort. He was 51.
For the past two years Scott has been battling cancer. This indiscriminate disease took one of the healthiest and fit people known to his family and friends. Scott and Tanis researched deeply and took on the fight to survive with everything they could muster. It was a long, and many times, painful journey that is over now. Scott was born April 13 1963 in Westminster California and moved to BC when he was just 10 days old. Scott grew up in Vernon and Edmonton. Scott leaves to mourn: His Wife Tanis and Daughter Savannah (pets: Norco, Kona, Bella) Father Lorne (Karen) Siemens, Mother: Faye (Philip) Jones, Sister: Kathie (Vaughn) Peoples, (Nephews: Jordan, Nathan, Liam) Step Brothers: Graham (Katherine) Jones and Russell Jones. Inlaws: Fraser and Genniene Sutherland. Aunty Val, Aunty Patti close cousin Jeremy Siemens, several other family and Best Friend of 43 years, Bob Woodman. Plus the MANY many friends Scott touched in his personal and professional life. Scott was a very passionate skier and dedicated his life to racing and teaching skiers, staff, and College students about the sport and the Ski Industry. He was successful as a manager in the ski resort industry, managing and building ski resorts so others could share his dream. He was also very successful in the resort real estate world sharing his passion and dreams with buyers from all over the world. Scott's natural athletic ability and competitive nature was also shared with others in many other sports including hockey, football, waterskiing, triathlons, mountain biking and virtually any type of human powered water craft. He even strapped on the «skinny skis» and snowboard, as anything on snow came natural to him. Paddling was a passion Scott came upon later in life and he embraced it equally to his love of skiing. Scott, with friends Bob and Kim paddled year round rain, shine or snow on Okanagan Lake training for paddling competitions across BC and USA. Scott and Bob were ranked the #1 40 and over team at the Catalina US Championships prior to Scott's diagnosis and Scott was one of the top paddlers in Western Canada. Scott studied Ski Area Management program at Humber College in Toronto and started his ski industry career at Poley Mountain in Sussex New Brunswick during a time of building. The ski area added night skiing, new snowmaking and a new chairlift during his time there. He then moved to Edmonton and became
the youngest Ski Area General Manager in western Canada at the Edmonton Ski Club. In 1990- 96 Scott spent six hardworking years in Terrace building Shames Mountain Ski Area from the ground up. At times he was writing pay cheques out of his own bank account in order to make payroll for his staff, not something many people would do. It was in Terrace where Scott met his soulmate Tanis Sutherland, they connected right away as they shared an entrepreneurial spirit first opening a gym in Terrace then working together on many other ventures. 1996 Scott joined Selkirk College Instructing in the Ski Resort Operations and Management program. His natural teaching and leadership skills instilled a passion for the snow sports industry to hundreds of students over the eight years of Instructing at Selkirk College. Scott and Tanis moved back to Vernon in 2004 where Scott entered the recreational real estate world, which was moving toward it's peak in the Okanagan. He was successful in selling new development properties and homes at Silver Star, Big White, Predator Ridge, Veranda Beach, La Casa and most recently residential home sales in Vernon at the Seasons and Adventure Bay. Scott, Tanis and their daughter Savannah were the best hosts whether at Margaritaville by the lake or at their home on Silver Star.
A celebration of Scott's life was held at Silver Star on December 14th.
In lieu of flowers, those friends wishing to make memorial contributions in memory of Scott may do so to the Upper Room Mission, 3403 – 27th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 1S2.

It's still hard to believe that a year after his passing, Scott is no longer with us. Such a warrior and fierce fighter of his cancer, we thought he'd beat it once and for all. Of course, he'll always be in our hearts and minds, so the great memories we have of this awesome guy will live on.

Whenever we lose a beloved family member or a close friend, we discover again that the deeper the love, the greater the loss, and the sharper the pain. As time passes, the anguish slowly and gradually diminishes, while the special memories and the blessings of those relationships, these remain with us always, warming our hearts. The grief is the small price we pay for so much happiness.

We were so sorry to hear the sad news of Scott's passing. He will always be remembered as a stalwart member of the ski industry, he was prominent within Canada West Ski Areas Association, from his success at Shames Mtn and as an instructor on the SROAM program at Selkirk College. He will also be fondly remembered for his sheer enthusiasm for the job at hand and his positive attitude to life. Tanis if we can ever do anything, please get in touch. When we opened Shames Mountain in the early '90's we were very fortunate to attract a young, bright, energetic and talented manager by the name of Scott Siemens - what a stroke of good luck for Shames. Scott led the way for Shames to provide one of the finest ski experiences anywhere and for that leadership we are forever grateful. The thoughts and prayers of all of us on the Shames Board go out to Tanis and Savannah.

Dear Tanis and Savannah, Uncle Lorne, Auntie Karen, Auntie Faye and Kathie,
So very sorry to hear this horrible news. Scott was taken way too soon. He had an inspirational life, living so completely and to the fullest. Scott had many great adventures and accomplishments, always with a shining smile on his face. Am so grateful to have spent quality time together a couple of years ago. Tanis and Savannah,
I had the great privilege to call Scott a friend,a room mate and a fellow worker. We met when Scott came to Poley Mountain NB. Everybody here always had great things to say about him. Scott and I took our level 3 ski instructor together and out of 14 were the only 2 to pass. We also took our scuba diving course together in March of 89. We did our open dive in the Bay of Fundy with water Temps around 0- 3 degrees C. Scott also did the video at my wedding. These are just a few memories of Scott for me.
I am sorry for your loss. Thinking of you all with deepest sympathy at this difficult time.

A paragraph does not seem a worthy enough space to describe or appreciate Scott. Always heading on challenges and life with that same grin, like he knew something you should. Be it blowing his knee out on the ski hill, then going for a beer or going to McDonalds after getting ejected from his jeep. Every moment counted. What a life. Thanks Scott.

Little Sister & Savy...
Growing up in Terrace and being your big brother I of course always had one eye on your boyfriends. I remember clearly when Scott came into your life, the gleam in your eyes and the smile your face, we all knew he was the one, but I still had my eye on him...We are all devastated at his passing, he was taken to soon, our hearts and minds are with you and Savy, she is a chip off the Ol' block with your smile that lights up a room. I know I was there the morning after he left us, we never got to really talk I just want you to know that I loved and respected Scott. He was not only your husband he was my brother. I will miss him. Hugs and kisses from all of us here

Scott was a real roll model for me back in the Selkirk College days! One of the only words of wisdom that I actually still think about daily came from Scott! I was complaining about his class being to hard! so he turned and looked at me, paused..... Then said "nothing in life that's worth while doing, is easy!" It was a simple comment, but it turned a light on in my head and for that I thank him. He was a good man and will be in my family's prayers. Lots of love to Tanis and Savannah

Dear family and friends, Thank you so much for your heartfelt expressions of sympathy for our family. I have so many memories of my son, Scott which will comfort me as the years pass. I loved Scott and he will always live in my heart. Over the past couple of years I gave him two complete photo albums from his birth to the 1970s. We shared those times and memories together then. Tannis and Savannah we have never met but I knew Scott from his days at Poley and offer my deepest condolences. I was a patroller and he ran the ski school. He had a smile that would light up a room and a personality to fill it. I saw Scott a few years ago at a Canada West event and he had not changed a bit. He is well remembered by all of us at Poley and will be missed by all of us down here on the East Coast. I wish I could be there at Silver Star but will be sure to raise one in remembrance this weekend.
