Selma "Sally" Hartman, a resident of Libby's House West in Plymouth, died Sunday afternoon, May 4, 2014. She celebrated her 100th birthday on February 28, 2014.
She was born in 1914 in Sheboygan to Henry and Elizabeth (Leonhardt) Scheidel. She attended Trinity Lutheran Grade School and Sheboygan Vocational School.
On November 2, 1935 Sally and Elmer Hartman were united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church. For many years the couple made their home on S. 25th Street in Sheboygan. They enjoyed the fellowship of many lifelong friends and belonged to numerous card clubs. They also enjoyed bowling and attending Milwaukee Braves baseball games. After nearly seventy years of marriage, Elmer preceded her in death on January 14, 2004.
In 1951 Sally began her employment at the Sheboygan Clinic, retiring in 1976 as receptionist manager.
She was a lifelong, faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Sally had many friends and loved to play cards. She especially enjoyed her bridge clubs and also liked a good game of sheepshead. She was an extremely social person who loved to entertain. She took great pleasure in her birthday and sewing clubs that met on a monthly basis. She also enjoyed listening to music and singing along with it.
She is survived by two sisters, Lydia Brown of Chicago, IL and Dorothy Wippermann of Ocala, FL; many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews; and especially her loving niece, Susie (Gary) Kramer of Plymouth who thought of Sally as her second mother.
In addition to her husband, Elmer, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John T. Scheidel and Henry Scheidel; one sister, Emily Scheidel; three brothers-in-law, Elmer Maas, Bud Brown, and Owen Wippermann; and one sister-in-law, Lucille Scheidel.
A Funeral service to celebrate Sally's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Timothy J. Mech, Senior Pastor, will officiate. Entombment will follow at Garden Terrace Mausoleum. A time of visitation and support will be held at the church Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
Sally's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to all the staff at Libby's House that created a loving home for her. A special thank you to the home team from Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for their excellent care. Her family would also like to thank Kathy Schultz, RN for her exceptional, loving support. And last, but not least, a huge thank-you to Dr. Vytas Kerpe for the many years of care he provided Sally.
Although Sally and Elmer never had children of their own, they loved every child they met and their home became a magnet for them. You never left their home without an offer to take a piece of candy out of the bowl.
Sally will always be remembered as a kind and
gentle soul that exuded a zest for life.

"Sally & Elmer were wonderful neighbors. Thanks to Pastor Mech we were kept up on how Sally was doing. The world has lost a very special person. God has..." Joe & Ruth
