Biography

Sergio Alonso was born on April 29, in Havana, Cuba to his father, Domingo Alonso and his mother, Margot Ghersey, both deceased. Segio was the younger of two boys. His elder brother Orlando passed away a couple of years ago.

While in Cuba, Sergio was a catcher for a semi-professional baseball team until a shoulder injury ended his career. He became a Pharmaceutical Representative until immigrating to the U.S. in 1966. In the States, he eventually became a Private Investigator at a Law Firm until his retirement.

After a religious conversion during an Emmaus retreat, he became a devout Catholic and a beloved member of the Christ the King community.

Sergio passed away on October 24th, 2013 to complications from a surgery he had nearly a year prior to close a heart murmur.

Sergio is survived by the love of his life, Melanie Alonso, his daughter Margarita from a previous marriage, his step-children Maylin, Myra, René, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed.
