Sheldon Charles Jenkins, Capt. Army Air Corp. 95, passed away Friday July 25. A resident of North Beach, LBI for the past 30 years, Shell was born in Brooklyn N.Y. raised in Utica N.Y. Graduated from the Utica Free Academy in 1936; attended Union College in upstate N.Y. and enlisted in the Army in February 1941 prior to Pearl Harbor. He was part of the "greatest generation" Shell rose from the rank of Private to Capt during the war. Capt. Sheldon Charles Jenkins, Capt. Army Air Corp. 95, passed away Friday July 25. A resident of North Beach, LBI for the past 30 years, Shell was born in Brooklyn N.Y. raised in Utica N.Y. Graduated from the Utica Free Academy in 1936; attended Union College in upstate N.Y. and enlisted in the Army in February 1941 prior to Pearl Harbor. He was part of the "greatest generation" Shell rose from the rank of Private to Capt during the war. Capt. Jenkins Served with the 9th Army Air Corp, Squadron XXIX Tactical Air Command during the Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe Campaigns.

He married WW II veteran and retired Navy Chief Petty Officer Mary Jane Campbell who passed in 1999. They adopted their only son Kenneth in 1956 while living in Yonkers and later Valhalla N.Y.

Career accomplishments as an Electrical Engineer include; early Network TV broadcasting in NYC, World Wide Communications Control & Warning Systems for the U.S. Government. He retired in 1984 from AT&T.

After Retirement, Shell was an active member of the Pioneers. Was a trustee of the original Surf Light Theatre, was President of the North Beach Home Owners Assn. delivered meals for Meals on Wheels for 20 yrs, tutored struggling readers, enjoyed fishing, visits from his grand children, traveling the world with his wife. After her passing he continued to support the arts through Surf Light Theatre, and Bay Atlantic Symphony Orchestra. He has donated to numerous improvement projects to his much-loved churches (Wright Memorial & St Francis). He always enjoyed helping others. He leaves us all better for knowing him and his dry wit and humor.

He is survived by his son Ken, daughter in-law Jeannette, 3 granddaughters, Kathryn, Kelly, Kristy; and his beloved companion Grace Ranellone.

This Wednesday, July 30th, calling hours will be from 10:30AM until the 12 PM Funeral service at the Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home 10 Hilliard Dr. Manahawkin, NJ 08050. Burial to follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Manahawkin, NJ

In lieu of flowers, The Jenkins' family requests memorial contributions in Sheldon Jenkins name be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Wright Presbyterian Food Bank
