Sherman A. Burton joins his family in their eternal home, having passed from this life on January 9, 2014. Sherman was born in rural East Texas nears Winnsboro, one of twin boys, on April 1, 1938 to Lewis and Lorene Burton. After several moves with the U.S. Army during WWII, his family settled in Dallas. Gifted in many respects, after graduation from North Dallas High School he attended SMU on a diving scholarship, and later attended Denver Art Academy in Colorado. Following 4 years in the Marine Corps, he began a 30+ year career with Texas Instruments, retiring from a management position with TI in 1993.
A scratch golfer, he won several Pro-Am tournaments in the Dallas area. He was also a gifted artist, painting portraits of several federal judges, high ranking military officers, and local business executives. He also served as a public school teacher and college instructor in electronics and math. He performed consulting services as an EPA-certified instructor in HVAC systems and an OSHA-certified instructor in excavation safety. Sherman found time to carve out a career in show business, first as Paul Newman with Celebrity Look-Alikes, and later performing as Willie Nelson. His gift of being able to look, sing and perform as Willie was non-pareil. He did "Willie" shows throughout the country, including appearances in several feature films. Attendees at his shows often thought he was the real Willie.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Elda, and their son Tony, as well as his parents and older brother, Larry. He is survived by twin Herman of Seabrook, Texas and brother Cary of Fort Worth. Other survivors include numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends.
In remembrance of his and Elda's deep love for animals, the family asks that donations or memorials be directed to the Humane Society of North Texas, 1840 East Lancaster, Fort Worth, Texas, 76103.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 13, 2014 at the Calvary Hill Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00a.m. A religious service will be held at 12:00p.m. followed by interment at Calvary Hill Cemetery.
