Obituary

Sherry Kay Esvelt was born in February 1942, to Captain and Mrs. Lester A. Maize. She was a devoted eldest sister to Barbara and Jan, beloved wife of Larry, mother of Mark, Kathy, Erik, and grandmother of seven. Daughter and niece of military officers, she grew up all over the country from Hawaii to Maine, ultimately meeting her husband of nearly fifty years at Washington State University. She followed him to Berkeley, California where she earned her Bachelors Degree in Chemistry, before settling in Spokane, Washington to raise their family. Nothing was more important to Sherry and Larry than family. Her beautiful home was always ready to receive exchange students, nieces and nephews, and visiting cousins, or host big family reunions and holidays. She was preceded in death by her husband Larry and during her last years, as she suffered with Parkinson's disease, she was looked after by her excellent caregivers. She will be remembered as an avid gardener with perfect taste, who also knew the Latin name for everything, a tireless Deacon forever ready to help her church, a generous aunt, a loyal sister, a cherished wife, and a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was generous, kind, funny, and the very best friend you could ever ask for. Sherry is survived by her two sisters, three children, and seven grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday July 23rd, at 1 o'clock pm at Millwood Community Presbyterian Church 3223 North Marguerite Road Spokane, WA 99212.
