Shirley Shannon entered eternal peace at her home on December 1, 2016 in Colorado Springs, CO. She was born on April 9, 1950 in Dover, NJ to the late Harry and Anna Guiles. She grew up in Dover where she was involved in the band and theater. She went on to graduate magna cum laude from Wilks-Barre College in Pennsylvania. On June 30, 1973 she married Gerard Shannon.
She was beloved by all that knew her. Her laugh was infectious and her kindness knew no bounds. Everyone was welcome in her home where she gave love and kindness to all that came through. She loved to read and go to the theater. In her final years her grandson, Liam was the light of her life.
She is survived by her husband, Gerard Shannon; her daughters, Meredith and Meagan Shannon; and her grandson, Liam.
A rosary will be held on December 9, 2016 at 9:20 am at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church with the service to follow at 10:00 am. St. Patrick’s is located at 6455 Brook Park Dr, Colorado Springs, CO 80918.

Thoughts and prayers to Gerard, Meredith, Meagan, and Liam. Aunt Shirley was a great woman with an incredible larger than life personality. Her presence will be missed. Her legacy lives on in those whose lives she touched. In times of great sorrow, this poem has provided me comfort:
As the tide recedes it leaves behind bright seashells in the sand.
The sun goes down but gentle warmth still lingers on the land.
The music stops yet echoes on in sweet refrains.
For every joy that passes something beautiful remains.

My deepest sympathy for Gerry, Meredith and Meagan. Shirley, we grew up together, went to school together, worked in the sweat shop factory together in the Summer, and won scholarships together. You remind me of my youth. I realize that eventually we will all be with you. Say Hi to Ma, and our friends who have passed. You will be missed.

I can't express enough my sorrow in Shirley's passing. We worked together for 22 years and she was a huge influence in my life. Underneath that occasionally gruff exterior was one of the nicest people anyone could ever meet and one of the hardest workers I've ever known. I'm know she'll be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to Gerry, Meredith and Meagan and the rest of her family.
