Shirley "Minnie" Toliver Phillips, 75 Greensburg, IN. passed away Monday October 29, 2012 at the Hospice of South Central Inpatient Care Facility in Columbus, IN. She was born July 10, 1937 in West Baden, IN. the daughter of Rex and Maude (Grubb) Toliver. She graduated from Indiana business College in 1975 and worked as a Computer Operator for Decatur County CO-OP for 14 years. Minnie was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church where she was a member of the LCW Lutheran Church Women, where she taught Sunday school, coordinated Bible School and served as the financial secretary. She then was a member of the United Methodist Church in Greensburg. She enjoyed collecting Dolls, Flo Blue Dishes, Stamps, & thimbles, and her trips to florida in the cool months. She married Thomas Phillips on February 6, 1954 in Greensburg, IN., and he preceded her in death.
Minnie is survived by one daughter: Amy Jo Rigby of Hartsville, IN. one step daughter: Janet Andress of MI.; one Son: Tom R. Phillips of TX.; five Sisters: Jan Richey of Martinsville, IN, Susan Gillenwater of Los Cruz, N.M., Donna Hanes of Columbus, IN., Julie Chandlers of Rockport, IN, and Jill Chambers of Richland, IN.; three Brothers Steve Grubb, Jeffrey Grubb both of Linden, TN. and Pat Toliver of Rockport, IN.; three grandchildren also survive as well as numerous Nieces and Nephews. Minnie is also survive by her special loving friend Gene Williams. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Tom, and one daughter: Sonja Rutherford.
Friends may call at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home on Friday November 2, 2012 from 4:00 until 8:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday November 3, 2012 at the United Methodist Church Greensburg at 10:00am with visitation from 9:00am until the time of service. Burial will follow in the South Park Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Decatur County, Wounded Warriors Fund or to the I.U. Grand Son
Dear Grandmother,
You have brought many years of joy and happiness into our lives. You have touched so many lives and have made a positive impact on our lives. You are my best friend and I was always able to turn to you with anything in my life. It's not too many times someone can say that there Grandma is there best friend but I can. You have left us in body but you are still with us every day in mind and spirit. We miss you and love you!
