JudyAnn and I are so, so saddened to hear that we lost Si today. I cannot begin to convey how much we love you all and feel for you in this hour. Si was a rock of this family, and such a deep emotional link for all of the Michels to the history and closeness of our family, indeed of our entire Lake Charles Jewish (and broader) community. He was also such a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather to so many. His closeness and affection for my parents and for all of us was ever-present. Our sympathies go out to all of you, especially your mother. We are thinking of you all.
With love,

There is a french phrase I recently used in a song: on choisit pas ses parents. Translated this implies that one enters their existence without a choice of who will nurture or parent them, or to which path their existence will unfold. I am truly blessed to have been born into loving parents, surrounded by close and dear siblings, and a wonderful extended family. Dad's respect of others and core family values will remain with me in every relationship of old and new friends, and general daily interactions I continue to have. As much as he was a mentor, he was always wanting to learn from others. He sought knowledge and understanding of the global dynamics happening around him daily; he understood the complexities of life and relationships. He taught me so much and I will miss him dearly - he made a difference.

Dear Joel,

I share my sympathy on your recent loss. I'm so glad to have known more about your father from you in our conversations. I also read the obituary and watched the slide show that one of your family members created and posted on Facebook. I had tears of joy as I saw the many pictures that showed what was important in his life - family, faith, community and Texas A & M. I was out of town the day of the service or I would have been there to hear tributes firsthand.
My prayers continue for all of you during this transition. I know he was proud that his legacy continues through you, your siblings and children. Here is to life well-lived! Fondly,

June 30, 2017

Joel your father was so good to me and I will always think of him like a second dad. Thank God for men like Mr. Si !! Please give my love to Ms. Jan and your mom, God Bless you all,

By Love Is Si Remembered, In Memory He Lives

In this hour we come together to remember our beloved and cherished Si, Of Blessed Memory.

We celebrate his beautiful life through our prayers and loving remembrances, as we give grateful thanks to G-d for all the years that we had Simon with us.

In our prayerbooks we find this beautiful reflection that I believe captures so perfectly our deepest feelings on this day :

O Eternal Father, the generations of men come and go before Thee. Brief is their
existence. Many are the tasks still unfinished, the plans unfulfilled, the dreams unrealized
when we are summoned to leave this earthly home. Yet we lift up our souls to Thee, that our little day may find its permanence as part of Thine eternity and our work its completeness in Thee.
At this hallowed hour we turn our thoughts to our beloved departed Si and recall the tender companionship of his earthly presence. Though his mortal career has ended, he has not vanished from our hearts.
By love is Si remembered, and in memory he lives.
Grant us, O God, strength and blessing through the memory of our departed Si. May the
noble purposes which inspired him and the high ideals which he cherished endure in our thoughts and live in our actions
Amen
(After Union Prayer Book, I, pp. 366-367)

Truly by love will our beloved Simon be remembered and in memory he
will forever live.

Love characterized all of Simon's long life. His love for his
wife Corinne was so clear to all of us who knew Si. He
absolutely cherished her, and she gave of her loving care and affection every day of his life. Corinne, our hearts go out to you with loving prayers and devotion.

Si's love for his children is also known to all of us. Our prayers reach out to Sandy and Ronnie, Judy and Bruce, Kim and Pete, Marc and Pattie, Joel and Jan, Jody and Paige, and all your children and grandchildren. The tender, steady and devoted care that each of you gave to
your father was so beautiful to behold, and gave witness to the depth of your love and dedication to him. I am very sure he knew how very much each of you loved him throughout his life.

Si's love for Temple Sinai was known to all of us. Throughout his life he gave of his energy and resources for the betterment of our temple and our Jewish Community. He loved attending all our worship services and activities, and was always so very sure to greet me
and Linda with his beautiful smile and warm embrace. I shall long remember how very much
he enjoyed participating in our Shabbes Morning Worship and Torah Study and joining me
for our Mens Luncheons. His participation in our discussions always brought us fresh
insight and understanding about Israel.

In fact, Simon was the first person to give me a tour of Lake Charles as I began my service to our temple now nearly nine years ago. As he drove me around the city, he explained the background of each area, describing for me the growth and development of the city over previous decades.

I shall long remember how excited Si and Corinne were to travel to Israel with our members just a few years ago. During that trip, Simon was deeply immersed in the explanations of our guides about the history of Israel and her continuing struggle for survival. He continually sought my updates on Israel, and I know that like Corinne, Si had a very special place in his heart for Israel and her People.

I've often thought of that day years ago when Simon drove me all around Lake Charles. In so very many ways, Si was Navigator for each of us, for his loving family, for our congregation and Jewish Community, and for all who knew and loved him.

He gave us a beautiful sense of direction for our lives, one filled with love and compassion for all. Each and every person who knew Simon loved him so very much and all of us shall hold him forever deep deep within out hearts.

It is really true : Though his mortal career has ended, he has not vanished from our hearts.

By love shall Si be forever remembered, and in memory he shall forever live.

We love you always, dear Simon, and we give our thanks to G-d for having you among us for all these many years.
May you rest in peace,

Amen.

Marc, Joel, & family, Si was really quite the gentleman and I always enjoyed our conversations. Last time I saw him was like maybe 3 or 4 (maybe 5) years ago. He was visiting Russell Tritico and I remember thinking at the time how much fun he was and how pleasant and happy he always seemed to be. He will be greatly missed, I know, by many folks. Hope time brings a measure of relief from the sense of what is certainly a great loss.

To all the Davidson family,
Si was a great man and always cheerful and kind. As an adopted member of the clan, he was always open to another of Marc's friends just hanging around. He was supportive of whatever wild ideas we might have, while giving us sound, reasoned advice. Like my dad, he endured teenage boys being a wee bit mischievous but never had harsh words. You could see the love of family in everything he did. A great lesson for all of us.

I bought a great big building at 202 North Ryan St. and started moving in the first week of August, 2011. I hired Todd Buxton to help my son-in-law and I start a business expansion. We are from Tennessee. I reached out to make friends with the previous guy that ran the place: Si Davidson. Si told me all about his business that used to occupy the old building. He came by every week or two just to say hi and see the progress of our equipment installation. It was great to see him ambling into the bay no. 4 where we were at work. He alway had a smile and wanted to know everything about what the heck we were going to be doing in there. He offered to introduce me to local folks and made me feel welcome in the Lake Charles community. He treated me and my wife to a fancy dinner at the top of a nice building overlooking the lake. He loved this community and he loved me. I love Si and will miss him a lot.

Joel,

I originally posted this text message on Tuesday morning June 13th to your phone and just found out that you had not received it. I was out of town at the time and regret I could not attend the services.

Joel,

My heart sank in sadness this morning as I got the news that your Dad had passed away. It was a phone call I dreaded for a long while.

I think you know the great respect and love I had for this man who was in many ways a father figure to me..

His kind and gentle soul was and will be a bright beacon of hope in my memory reminding me of the Goodness God has created in man.

Your father was certainly a testament to that Goodness.

My deepest sympathies and prayers of comfort to you and all of your family at this time.

Sincerely,

Bobby Domingue and Family

I had the pleasure of working with SI on the PPG Community Advisory Panel for many years which led to me working with his son Joel on the same Panel. SI was a faithful member of the group who added greatly to the quality of the group and was respected by all who worked with him. I've heard that the measure of one's character when they pass is measured by how much they are missed when they are gone and SI is at the top of the chart.

I am touched by the beautiful remarks people have shared about my father. Dad was a wonderful loving father who taught me so much. I cherish so many memories with dad, mom, my siblings, our extended family, and friends! Davidson Sash and Door Company was a source of pride and all of the many people who were connected to it. I see Lake Charles through dad's proud eyes and appreciate so much about the tight and supportive community. I am a lucky and loving daughter.

From the day he graduated from Texas A&M, Si Davidson epitomized what it meant to be an loyal and caring former student, demonstrating the core Aggie values of Excellence, Integrity, Leadership, Loyalty, Respect, and Selfless Service. His support of many generations of students, and the personal attention he paid to providing that support have inspired us all. As for me, I am grateful for all he taught me about being a part of the Aggie family.

Thank you for being here to honor our father. He would be humbled!

As I think of my father, all I feel is kindness, honesty, love and interest in you and your well-being, your success and unconditional love. These feelings are of my mother also

But Mom, today is all about Dad!

Born in 1927 here in Lake Charles, the son of a Russian Immigrant (Grandpa Joe) and a Polish Immigrant (Nanny Tena)

Schools: 4th Ward, Central School, Lake Charles High

Boy Scouts - Sea Scouts Troop 5, the Best troop alive! Waiting on the bridge.

Friends and relationships, more than we can share, in every walk of life, nobody was beneath himThe people that were impacted by him come forth daily in my life here in Lake Charles and the region.
And some we never knew like his Good Friend --- you name them!

Temple Sinai: Bar Mitzvah in 1940 and then everything that was needed or he wanted to do Maintenance of the buildings all the way to this beautiful Bema / Arc that we see here today.
He loved being and living a Jewish life. That was the roots' of his kindness that we all talk about and felt daily.
His efforts, including our mother, will keep this historical and beautiful building and house of worship around for many-many years to come.

Texas A&M: Class of '48 His fraternal love and relationship with a college, a town, an aggie spirit with all its traditions He loved Maroon and White and did not know how to say the name of the other college in Texas He lived to proudly see his grandson, Joseph, graduate in Class of '07 This story would never end, so if you need a bumper sticker or an aggie cap see us later.

Davidson Sash and Door / Davidson Louisiana Inc. His employees were his family, they worked alongside - with him - not for him, and the customers were your friends, He loved the industry and innovation. Quality not inspected but expected, from the beginning that is what he wanted always, quality products and quality service.
And just as important know what was going on- he would know every construction site in town and believe me, he would expect his salespeople to know also

Lake Charles: He loved this town, its future was always his concern and it's beauty was it's heart. Many know his commitment on his walks down Holly Hill Rd. Picking up trash and making friends. Driving around town for hours, as he would say to run errands, we asked him of this mysterious person, but know it was so he could visit his many friends and places he love so much. On his own time!

Mom and Us and more of us, all of us Mom Mom you mean your mother! And family-family-family
The saying Family Comes First He created that saying, as a husband, as a father, uncle, cousin and yet just as important to him, as an employer, a businessperson, as a community leader.
Family reunions and you could say gatherings He made it happen still will never understand how he pulled it off, but we did get together with family all over this country.

Treat others as you would want to be treated Absolutely Dad's golden rule

Canoeing, Golfing, Tennis, Hiking, you name it he loved it, yet not a hunter or fisherman - he just loved enjoying the outdoors with all of us. Instilled the respect of what god created and what we should do to protect it.
He loved Israel and went many times,
He loved the West Coast, the beauty of the timber, mountains and streams.
He knew his treesalways asking me to identify what tree we were looking at! And I did my best
He loved his Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla Ice-cream! It will be served in just a few minutes!

Loyalty, Dedication, Persistence, Hard Work, Love, Kindness, Smiles and Frustration He loved life to the fullest and we all are so blessed to have been with him on his journey through his life.

The opportunity Si and Stu and later Joel gave me decades ago is still with me as I continue my millwork career in the New Orleans area. We went thru some very good times, and yes, a few forgettable ones, as we all know, nothing last forever in the Millwork trade. Davidson Sash and Door as it was known when I first started was a magnificent battle ship that conquered many a foe. Unfortunately, Co-ops and big boxes and their big $$ were too powerful a foe for our proud team of warriors. I surely hope Si, Bobby and Stu and the rest of the gang are up there somewhere drinking a glass of wine, smoking fat cigars and celebrating their very interesting lives.

To the Davidson Family: In 1956, Mr. Joe Davidson and Si, after several years of contact and negotiations convinced my father to move his family from Lafayette to Lake Charles and assume the foremanship of the Davidson Sash and Door mill. In January of 1957, my father began work and the family moved to Lake Charles that summer. Until he retired in 1980, and until his death in 1996, my father never had a negative thing to say about the Davidsons. Si was a wonderful man, not only as noted in the obit above, but on a personal level to anyone he met. My condolences to the entire family and I trust you can take comfort in knowing that Si lived a life that benefitted all people. He was a true man of conscience. A fair man who truly lived by the Golden Rule. May he rest in peace.

When your name is called at Aggie Muster, I'll be sure to answer "HERE" for you.

Exalted and hallowed be God's great name
in the world which God created, according to plan.
May God's majesty be revealed in the days of our lifetime
and the life of all Israel -- speedily, imminently, to which we say Amen.

Blessed be God's great name to all eternity.

Blessed, praised, honored, exalted, extolled, glorified, adored, and lauded
be the name of the Holy Blessed One, beyond all earthly words and songs of blessing,
praise, and comfort. To which we say Amen.

May there be abundant peace from heaven, and life, for us and all Israel,
to which we say Amen.

May the One who creates harmony on high, bring peace to us and to all Israel.
To which we say Amen.
