Sister Gloria (Victoria Czarniewicz) was born on September 27, 1927 to Stella (Czerwinska) and John Czarniewicz. A native of (Greenpoint) Brooklyn, New York, she attended St. Stanislaus Kostka Elementary School and Girls High School both in Brooklyn. After graduating from high school, she worked as a bookkeeper for five years before entering the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth on December 28, 1950. Upon graduation from Holy Family University in Philadelphia, PA, Sister was assigned to work in the Payroll Office of Nazareth Hospital, Philadelphia, PA. After receiving a Master's Degree in Business Education from Catholic University, Washington, D.C., Sister was asked by the Congregation to teach business classes on a Secondary School level. Thus, Sister began a career as a teacher which would span 47 years in schools in New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Jersey. Sister retired from teaching in 1997 and worked in the Finance Department of Little Flower Children's Services, Wading River, NY until 2005. Sister moved to Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent in Monroe, CT where she worked part-time as receptionist in the convent. Sister suffered a broken hip in 2008 which resulted in Sister gradually being confined to a wheelchair. After a short illness, Sister passed away on August 20, 2016. Sister is survived by her sister Rose Allocca, of Brooklyn, NY; sister–in-law Peggy Czarniewicz of Syracuse, NY, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 23 at 11am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent, Monroe, CT. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Monroe, CT. Visitation will take place on Monday, August 22 from 3pm-5pm at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent, Monroe, CT. For online condolences please visit www.spadaccinofuneralhome.com.
