Sister Marie Hoelle (Sister James Marie) a Sister of Note Dame de Namur, died on July 6, 2014, at the age of 99 years, a month before her 100th birthday, in the 82nd year of her religious life. Her passing is mourned by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur and by many nieces and nephews as well as many good friends. Sister is preceded in death by her mother and father Jacob and Mary (Hogan) Hoelle and her seven brothers, Tim, Joe, Lou, Clarence, Frank, John and Rev. Philip Hoelle, S.M.
Sister Marie entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur on October 2, 1932. During the years 1936 to 1973 she taught elementary classes at the following schools: St. Peter Canisius (Chicago, IL), St. John (Logan, OH), Immaculate Conception (Dayton, OH), Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (Reading, OH), St. Xavier (Cincinnati, OH), Holy Angels (Cincinnati, OH), Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Glendale, AZ), St. Stephen (Hamilton, OH), St. James (Dayton, OH), St. Agnes (Dayton, OH), Holy Family (Dayton, OH), Holy Trinity (Dayton, OH), St. Joseph Academy (Columbus, OH), and St. Agnes (Columbus, OH). She taught children at the Notre Dame Guidance Clinic (Columbus, OH), and she also taught adults at the Notre Dame Educational program in Hamilton, OH, served as organist for Mercy Hospital in Hamilton OH and gave private music lessons in Hamilton, OH and at Sts. Peter and Paul convent in Reading, OH. Sister Marie retired to Mt. Notre Dame Health Center in 2001.
Wherever she taught or served as music teacher, Sister Marie left an impression of peace, love and deep faith. Her list of correspondence during her last years was impressive. Her life has been a gift to her Sisters in Notre Dame, to her family and to her many, many friends.
The visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, from 1:30 to 2:45 at Mount Notre Dame Health Center, 699 E. Columbia Avenue, Cincinnati OH (513-821-7448), followed by the Mass of Christian burial and internment. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Retirement Fund of the Sisters of Notre Dame, 701 E. Columbia Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45215. Joy Cearley Keitz
Sister Marie was a good friend of my mom Mary Cearley who recently turned 98 and she taught piano lessons to quite a few in our family. We all really loved her and will always remember her in our minds and hearts.
