SMITHIE JOY TOWNSEND AMBURGEY
Smithie Joy Townsend Amburgey , age 89, passed away Friday, September 10, 2010, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
She was born September 22, 1920, to Owen Smith and Mary Frankie (Risinger) Townsend in the log cabin home of the Risinger family in Tenaha, Shelby County, TX. She married Floyd Whitt Amburgey on December 10, 1949. She was active in the Senior Citizens Dance Club and was a member of Crescent Park Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Carrie Lois Jones, her brother, French Montford Townsend, and her granddaughter, Katie Marie Amburgey.
She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Owen Amburgey and wife, Laura of Wichita, KS, and Gary Byron Amburgey and wife, Debi of Odessa; her grandchildren, Gary Blaine Amburgey , Nicholas Amburgey, Holley Joy Morgan and husband, Jason, Hope Jenise Nabarrette and husband, Mike, and Megan Renea Amburgey; her great-grandchildren, Mason, Maddox, and Hudson Morgan, and Colton and Cason Nabarrette; and her brother, Byron Townsend and wife, Ramona of Norfolk, VA.
Family visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 12, 2010, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 13, 2010, at Crescent Park Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the original section of Ector County Cemetery.
