SOFIA ANNE MARSHALL
Born February 16, 1975.
Received into glory August 13, 2013.
Mother, wife, and homemaker. Colorado Springs native. Survived by her husband Gary, sons Aaron and Deshawn, and daughters Joelle and Genesis. Mother and father, Zebrya and Darryl, sisters, Andra, Tekara, and Janine, and brothers, Elious, Phillip, Septime, and Stephen. Maternal grandparents Fred and Mary Lou, paternal grandmother, Rosemarie, maternal aunt, Brenda, paternal aunts Sharon, Carol, and Anita, maternal uncles, Gregory and Michael, and paternal uncles Randy, Kenny, and Michael. She is also survived by a number of cousins, nieces, in-laws, and friends.
Sofia's life began the morning of February 16, 1975 at St. Francis Hospital in Colorado Springs. She was a graduate of Wasson High School and married her first husband, Earl Cooley, soon after graduation. She gave birth to her first child, Michael Cooley, who was born prematurely and passed soon after birth. Sofia sang beautifully at his funeral. Shortly after Michaels passing, Sofia, always strong in faith and will, gave birth to Aaron Michael who will be attending college this fall in Kansas on both academic and athletic scholarships.
While working security at Hewlett Packard she met her second husband, Gary Marshall, an IT professional. According to Gary he was in awe when he first saw Sofia. Together, they had two beautiful girls, Joelle and Genesis.
Sofia was a true Ambassador of Christ. She was a member of the Church of All Nations Choir. She lived to praise Christ and his people. Some of her favorite items to collect were Bible verses, many posted on the walls of her home. You could catch her, at times, getting a good laugh from her collection of Calvin and Hobbes novels. She loved to laugh. Sofia enjoyed arts and crafts, specifically knitting, writing, accounting, styling hair, board games, and in undeniably Sofia fashion, auto mechanics.
But most of all she enjoyed and thrived in her role as a Mother; always praising her children, nurturing them with love.
'Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting;
But a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
Give her the reward she has earned,
And let her works bring her praise at the city gate."
Proverbs 31: 30, 31
A Celebration of Life will be held at Dignity Memorial, 829 S. Hancock, Friday, Aug. 23 at 11 am. Viewing at 10 am. Sofia will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery. Reception immediately following at the home of her grandparents, Fred and Mary Lou Bland, 726 E. Moreno Ave.
