Solomon Ray Wells was called home to be with the Father on Saturday, April 5, 2014. He passed away in his home surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Fresno, CA on August 29, 1952. He attended St. Alphonsus Elementary School, San Joaquin Memorial High School, and graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in Fresno. Solomon studied criminal justice at Fresno City College and was also accepted into the police cadet program for the Fresno Police Department. Solomon Ray Wells was called home to be with the Father on Saturday, April 5, 2014. He passed away in his home surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Fresno, CA on August 29, 1952. He attended St. Alphonsus Elementary School, San Joaquin Memorial High School, and graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in Fresno.

Solomon studied criminal justice at Fresno City College and was also accepted into the police cadet program for the Fresno Police Department. In 1976 his aspiration to become a police officer was fulfilled when he was hired by the FPD. With his commitment to duty, integrity, and hard work he quickly rose in rank to become a Police Specialist. He worked the remainder of his career as a detective in the robbery and homicide investigation divisions. Solomon is well remembered and highly respected by all his colleagues and influenced the lives of the many people he served and who worked with him. Solomon proudly served on the FPD for 34 years before retiring in 2010.

An amateur bull rider, avid hunter and outdoorsman, gourmet cook, self-taught musician, and devoted family man "Cowboy" as he was affectionately called, was a true Renaissance man. With fearlessness and unwavering moral character, he was a leader among his peers and an inspiration for everyone whose lives he touched. He is remembered with great love by all those who knew him.

Solomon was preceded in death by his parents, Solomon and Etta Mae Wells; brother, Robert Meigs and sister, Patricia Wells Payne.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Alma Wells; son, Solomon David Wells and wife Ranisa; son, Samuel Aaron Wells and wife Sandra; daughter, Sarah Lauren Wells; grandsons Isaiah and Nathaniel Wells; granddaughters Anayah Wells and Sarina Saludes; brothers, CSM Roy Wells, John Wells M.D., SGM James Wells and Paul Wells; sisters Kathryn Wells Jackson and Elizabeth Wells Aguilar.

Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Friday, April 11, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.

A funeral service will be held at God's Family Church at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2014. Interment at Belmont Memorial Park immediately following.
