Stanislawa McBrien Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 14, 2016.

Stanislawa "Annie" McBrien (Techmanski) passed away on October 12, 2016 after a long struggle with a rare dementia. She was 77. Called Stasia by her family and known as Annie after coming to the United States, she was born on May 22, 1939 to Martin and Helen Techmanski in Pontarlier, France. Raised in central France, Annie worked at the American Air Force Base in Chateauroux, France where she met and married her husband of 49 years, John A., who preceded her in death in 2007.
As a military wife, Annie embraced the challenges and benefits of being part of the Air Force community. After many military moves the family settled in Chandler, Arizona in December 1974 and she continued to call Chandler home until her death. Annie held multiple administrative positions concluding with her retirement from the City of Tempe.
Annie was an exceptional cook and hostess and found great joy in bringing family and friends together to enjoy a fine meal and fellowship. An avid traveler, especially cruising, her journeys over the years allowed her to visit six of the seven continents. After her husband's retirement from the Air Force the couple became very giving with their time. Annie was very active with the Air Force Sergeants Association holding positions at the local, southwest and International level. Her hard work and dedication touched the lives of many enlisted members of the Air Force, both active duty and retired. Annie was also a charter member of St. Andrews Catholic Community volunteering in many capacities over the years.
She is survived by her children; John M. (Pamela) of San Antonio, Texas, Tim, Diane Waters and Valerie (Steve Dunn) all of Chandler, Arizona. Annie also leaves behind her deeply loved grandchildren; Amanda Billings (Zack), Michael McBrien and Bailey Waters; great-grandchildren and her siblings, nieces and nephews in France and Poland.
Visitation will be on Monday, October 17th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Valley of the Sun Funeral Home in Chandler. Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, October 18th at 11:00am at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church followed by internment at Valley of the Sun. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, www.theaftd.org, or Hospice of the Valley, www.hov.org.

Annie, you've been in our hearts since the first day we met you and John in 1993 as table mates on a cruise through the Panama Canal. Your vivaciousness, friendliness, and ever present smile would light up any table. We have so many wonderful memories of time spent with you and John - visits, trips, excursions, cruises. We are so grateful for your friendship. Our sincere sympathy to the family. May the happy memories bring you comfort.

John, Tim, Diane and Valerie, I am deeply saddened by the loss of Tata Stasia.

I will long remember her kindness, her generosity and the obvious joy she felt when she came to France or she saw her French family.

Keep in touch with her family around the world, as I am sure in everyday life with all her family, was so important and obvious to her.

I will certainly have a thought for her when in my life, a happy event happen to me, because for me she simply symbolized the joy and it is the memory I keep.

A beautiful soul has left us.

I send my deepest condolences

My thoughts are with you all.

John, Tim, Diane, and Valerie: I'm so sad for all of you and your families. I have special memories of your Mom and Dad from my two years living in AZ. Your Mom was so inclusive and I loved being part of the family dinners and other activities during that time. May she be free from the disease and rest peacefully with your Dad and her family.
