Stanley Boshoff Obituary

Stanley A. Boshoff, 90, most recently of Saratoga Springs and formerly of Worcester, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014 at the Saratoga Hospital.

He was born August 7, 1923 in North Adams, MA the son of Philip and Ada (Sur) Boshoff. He married Lucia M. DiMartin on February 16, 1948, and she predeceased him on March 30, 1975.

Stanley served in the US Army during World War II. He was in Normandy, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge, where he was injured, and received the Purple Heart.

During his working career, he drove truck, and for 17 years he was a rural postal carrier working out of the Worcester office. He then worked at the Albany Postal Distribution Center, until his retirement in 1986.

Stanley was a member of the Worcester American Legion, and the VFW. He loved sports and was an avid Red Sox and New England Patriots fan, as well as a follower of various college sports.

While living in Cheshire, MA, from 1986-2011, where he resided with his sister, Amy Bryant, he took advantage of the opportunities of walking and hiking in Berkshires.

He is survived by a son, Philip P. Boshoff, and his wife Rose A. of Saratoga Springs; a granddaughter, Laurel Boshoff of San Antonio, TX; a sister, Amy Bryant of Pittsfield, MA, as well as two nephews and several cousins.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 1:00 PM in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Stephen Fournier, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Saratoga Hospital Foundation, 211 Chestnut St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

Dear Phil, Rose, and family, I am so very sorry for your loss. Your tender care of Stanley over these past years are a testament to the love all of you had for him. I am certain he is looking down upon you with that same love. I will keep all of you in my prayers and ask the Good Lord to ease your grief knowing Stanley is home with him.
