Stanley Slavoj Milos Svarc 1936-2012

Stanley was born in Hartington, Nebraska to James and Marie Konupek Svarc. After high school he continued to work on the family farm until his older brother, Lumir, came home from the military. Stanley then enlisted and served as a Military Police Officer in the Army from 1956-1958.

In 1962, Stanley received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Hastings College, in Omaha, Nebraska. He relocated to Washington to begin his civilian life working as an Engineer for the Boeing Company. After a large layoff at Boeing, he returned to college and received his Master's in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Washington in 1964. He returned to work for Boeing and was well appreciated and respected.

Unfortunately, when the economy turned in the early 70's Stan choose to resign from Boeing rather than take another position with the company. He returned to the University of Washington and received an Accounting degree in 1972. He also studied and became a CPA. His remaining work years were spent as an Auditor with the federal government for Housing and Urban Development. He earned many awards and retired in 1999.

He met and married Katherine when he was getting his graduate degree at the University of Washington where she, to, was a student. They were married in December of 1967 and he helped raise Katherine's daughter, Kimberly. Stan played a significant role as father and grandfather to Kimberly's daughter, Kelsey, born in 1990. He adored and loved Gramma Crider, Kathy's mother. He really enjoyed time with his family.

Travel was one of Stanley's first loves and he and Katherine saw much of the world. He traveled all 50 states, most countries in Europe, and much of Asia and other parts of the world. His most enjoyable destination was Hawaii, where he spent his winter months.

Stanley loved to read and study and tried many new adventures like parachuting, mountain climbing, and Tai Chi. He would hike up Mt. Si with a pack of rocks on his back to prepare for his two successful summits of Mt. Rainer. He also loved the theater and music. At home he would often walk around listening to his music with his headphones on. Stanley became a jack of all trades in order to keep up the maintenance and repair of the rental properties.

Stan was a devout Christian and spent many hours reading, writing, and praying. He loved God and was an obedient servant. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Bellevue and Waikiki Chapel in Hawaii and always looked forward to his many Bible studies.

During his retirement Stanley volunteered at the University Hospital, delivered meals on wheels for the Kirkland senior center, and transported elderly and disabled individuals in need to all kinds of appointments. Often going over and above what was expected.

Stanley Svarc was a gentle, kind, and intelligent man with a quick wit. He was always there to lend a helping hand and offer support to those he loved and others who were in need. He loved his work, his family and he had a wonerfully fulfilling life! Now, God has called him home and he is in a better place.

Stanley is survived by Katherine, his wife of 45 years, daughter Kimberly Foster, granddaughter Kelsey Foster, two sisters Olga Jorgenson and Vlasta Christianson, brother Lumir Svarc, and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed and remembered.
