Stephen Ware Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 13, 2017.

Dr. Stephen Harrison Ware Jr., 93, went to be with the Lord from his home on March 11, 2017. A Schreiner Institute alumnus, he attended the University of Texas for one year and graduated from Tulane Medical School at 23 years of age.
He was an active duty Navy physician until 1954 when he opened his General Medicine and Surgery private practice in Corpus Christi. During his medical career, he served as President of the Medical Staff for Ada Wilson Hospital of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and The Doctors' Hospital.
A founding member of the Buccaraders, he served as President and Grand Marshall of the Buccaneer Days Parade during his tenure. An avid hunter, he was also a founding member of the Kenyon Island Hunt Club.
Passionate about the Boy Scouts of America, he served as assistant scout master for Troop 180. He attended two World Jamborees and two National Jamborees. He was elected to the Order of the Arrow then advanced to Brotherhood and Vigil. As a Boy Scout leader he earned his Wood Badge.
Always strong in his faith, he was an active member of Parkway Presbyterian Church since 1954 and served as an Elder.
Dr. Ware is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jean Sterrett Ware, four children: Stephen Harrison Ware III M.D. (Lynn), Barbara Ann Ware Dake (Benny), Murrell Lynn Ware Whelan (Brian), Marc Sterrett Ware (Sherry), fourteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Come celebrate his life with us at his memorial service Saturday, March 18, 2017, 4:00 p.m. at Parkway Presbyterian Church, 3707 Santa Fe, Corpus Christi, Texas.

Sorry for your loss. Dr Ware was our family Dr, growing up. He even made house calls. I remember as a young boy, him going white wing hunting with us in the valley several times. When I was in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, I remember him helping me with several projects. He was my Grand parents too. May peace be with you all. I will always remember his convertibles and hats.

Dr. Ware was a man among men who has left this world a better place because of him having been here. It was impossible to be in his presence without feeling his spirit of kindness, caring, goodness, and joyful fun. All these decades later, I have vivid memories and images of Dr. Ware (with a smile on his face) beginning and ending each giggle-filled trip to Rockport with a flag ceremony and each Fourth of July at his family's vacation home with the skies lit up by his spectacular personal fireworks over the water. Dr. Ware made a difference in many lives and now joins Our Lord and Savior. My love and thoughts go out to his lovely wife, my dear friend Barbara (and his oldest daughter), his other wonderful children, and all of the other family members.
