Stephen J, "Spanky" Balazs, 77, of Mesa, AZ passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2015. Steve was born in East Chicago, Indiana, on April 5th, 1937, son of Joseph and Suzanne Balazs. He attended the Bethlen Home in Ligonier, Pennsylvania, during his adolescence. Steve held a special place in his heart for the many friendships created during his school years. He thought of Ligonier as his home away from home. He returned often and considered the Springer family part of his own. As a young adult, Steve moved to northwest Indiana where he met and married his wife of fifty years, Joyce M. (Bosard) Balazs. He is survived by Joyce, their three children: Jennifer E. (David) Bailey, Donald J. (Kim) Balazs, Cynthia R. Meadows, as well as his six grandchildren: (Cassandra, Caitlin, Sean, Erin, Adam & Samantha), and one great-grandchild (Madelynn). Of his many surviving nieces and nephews, he considered Robert (Sharon) Wilt his brother. A memorial service will be held at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, Highland, Indiana 46322, on Saturday, April 4, 2015. Visitation will be at 3:00 p.m. followed by the service at 4:00 p.m. with the Rt. Rev. Koloman Ludwig officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made in memory of Stephen Balazs to Banner Health Foundation, 2025 North 3rd Street, Suite 250, Phoenix, Arizona, 85004, or to the American Diabetes

Dear Mrs. Balazs, Jenny, Donny and Cindy, I was happy to learn that Mr. & Mrs Balazs had moved to AZ and Mesa to boot, but sad to learn of the passing of your husband/father. I have good memories of playing hanging out at the Balazs house and I remember Mr. Balazs's good humor. May you find comfort in your memories.
